CHAPTER 4 – The silver line is the dark cloud

Avery’s POV

Trevis started to walk towards Mr. Collin’s cabin. If he complains about me to the manager, my target will be slipped away from my hand, which is also for nothing. In between a huge humiliation done by Trevis, I was still able to raise my head and blocked his path.

“Tr…evis, please don’t do this” I stuttered by unfolding my arms to either side of the way to hold him from going to see Mr. Collin. He was in his cabin and was looking at us from the see-through glass. He narrowed his forehead, he knew that something was happening outside.

“Trevis, who is that? Are you talking to me?” he pointed his index finger to himself.

What is wrong with this man? Did he forget his identity also?

“I am your customer, call me Sir!” he weighed the word “Sir” and gritted his teeth.

“I…am s…orry sir….please don’t complain to the manager or else…”

“Or else what? Ha? What will happen little pigeon?” he kept his index finger on my chin and raised my face a little up. His eyes were narrowed and the hate visible in his eyes a few minutes ago was covered by a victorious smirk.

“Ohhh, let me guess, you won’t be able to get the bonus for the employee of the month” he winked and clicked his tongue, and pushed me away.

Such a f*cking bas*ard, he knew it, he did this purposely. That’s why he suddenly barged into the restaurant without his henchmen. I wish I could have slapped his face, I wish I could get the power of Wonder Woman, so I can smash his handsome face to never bully anyone again.

Know your states, Avery, you will never, ever be able to give him a single scratch. He was so powerful; his aura was enough to make my legs weak.

“Trevis, I mean sir, please don’t do this” I was begging for him as usual, but everyone in the restaurant was giving me a sympathetic look. I hate when others look at me with their sympathetic look. I don’t want others' sympathy for me, I just need my freedom, I just need to live my life without getting bullied by others.

“Move away, Elvy” He pushed me to a side and walked into Mr. Collin’s room, actually he barged into his room.

Mr. Collin, seated in his seat until now looking at the drama stood up as his body went through an electric shock. Trevis pulled a chair from his leg and sat on it like he owns the place. He is a monument of disrespect! He kept his legs on the table by crossing them on each other.

“Mr. Davenport, what a pleasant surprise. What can I do for you?” Trevis c*cked an eyebrow with a smirk.

“Sir, Mr. Collin. I am here to….”

“Sir, please” I cut him in the middle and pressed my lips to suppress the next tear that was about to come out from my eyes.

“Relax, I came here to give a compliment about you!” he must be joking. I know how Trevis works, he does the upside down. Mr. Collin was giving me a helpless look. He knew that Trevis was here to complain about me, and if Mr. Collin ignore it, the next person kicked out from this restaurant will be him.

“But…”

“But, what? Are you not gonna let me talk to your superior? Do you want me to complain that you have no respect for the customers?” he tilted his head like a villain. I don’t know where and how he dragged points to suffocate me.

“N..o Sir, please c….lontinue” I stuttered lowering my head.

“So, Mr. Collin, your employee was too fast to serve me the food. You can send her name for the Guinness World Record book” I am confused whether he was giving a compliment or behind these sweet words a giant Tsunami tidal wave could be on the way.

“Thank you, Mr. Davenport. I am glad to hear that” Mr. Collin covered his face with a fake smile.

“I am not done yet. I will be coming to the restaurant for the next few days and I want her to serve me. I only need her, understood?” I knew that, Trevis Davenport could not be so good, he always have hidden agendas cooking in his evil mind.

“I don’t want to see her serving others, she will be serving only me,” he said as he lowered his long legs to stand up.

“I hope, I was clear to both of you” he turned to go and I quickly opened the door for him to leave as soon as possible.

“Next time, don’t disappoint me Elvy” I felt his cigar mixed mint smell when he whispered lowering to me. I suddenly turned, because I didn’t expect him to whisper to me something while leaving. His lips lightly brushed, making me jolted and covering my whole body with goosebumps.

He walked outside and disappeared soon. Maybe he didn’t realize that his lips brushed against my cheek. Thank god, otherwise, it will be a plus point for him to bully me tomorrow.

“Avery, I am so sorry, though I knew and I saw what happened there, my hands are tight” Mr. Collin woke up his voice after confirming the leave of the devil.

“It’s all right, Mr. Collin. I know, that no one can do anything against him. After all we are poor things to play for him. I will go back to my duties Mr. Collin” I know that even the entire city raised their voice against him or his family or his friends, it’s useless, so why should I involve other people to mess with them, only myself is enough to get tortured and bullied by him.

I walked to table number five and found that the father and daughter were about to leave. I walked to them with a smile.

“Hey, did you enjoy your meal?” I patted the head of the daughter.

“Miss, I am so sorry that no one raised against their voice against that indiscipline man. I tried to film it and call the cops, but your staff stopped me doing from it. Who was that man?” the father speaks to me with disgust in his voice.

“Let it go, sir, I am usual to it now. Don’t spoil your mood, tell me did you enjoy the food?” I was glad to hear that at least one man tried raised his voice against me.

“The food was delicious, but the calm mood was ruined by that spoiled brat,” he said clenching his teeth.

“Never mind sir, have a good day! And please come again!” I said with a smile.

“Oh, I will give a recommendation about you to the manager while I am leaving” he replied with a smile.

“Thank you so much sir!” after all the evening is not bad. Someone has said that there is a silver line in every dark cloud.

I became busy with the customers and the day went as usual finally aching my legs. My legs are paining because they are so thin. I am not doing jogging or sports at school. Penelope and Lucan enchant the exercise mantra every day, but as soon as I keep my feet on the school ground the disgusting two faces of my life are there.

One is Travis and the other one is Mia, the cheerleader group’s leader. Running can make my legs chubby and perfect, but in the morning, I wake up at the last moment, because I sleep, I have to do two people’s homework. Mine and Travis’s. Simply, there’s no time for jogging, and I complain about my leg pains every day. Never mind, I will make them perfect when I attend college leaving all these shitty faces behind.

“Bye, guys. Good night!” I said gathering my overcoat and collecting the dinner packet.

“See ya tomorrow Avery!” they replied. I was the only one who was walking towards the side where my house was located and they all went to the other side. Amelia was already home since her shift was finishing at 5.00 p.m. As soon as her shift finishes she runs to pup ick her daughter.

I was walking, actually dragging my feet home, and threw myself on the bed. Mom was in the kitchen preparing an instant noodle for both of us. I removed my shoes and walked down to see her.

“As usual, the tired bunny is home,” Mom said covering her tired and wrinkled face with a smile.

“I brought the dinner mom, did you feed Sofia?” I asked unpacking the dinner pack.

“Yes, I feed her and can you just clean her a little before she sleeps?” Mom asked wiping her palms from a kitchen serviette.

“Sure Mom, you look so tired” I pulled a chair at the dining table to have dinner.

“So, tell me, how is the day?”

What should I say to her? She didn’t know that I was getting bullied at the school for many years and I didn’t bother to tell her. She has gone through a lot and she is going through a lot too.

“The school is fine Mom, and as usual I have a lot of homework to do. So I will finish my dinner quickly and leave to complete them” I lied to her.
