It’s light years away.’ Breathlessly, she demanded, ‘Are you sure mum didn’t tell you who my father is? You’re not keeping it from me, are you?’ ‘No, Joanna. Your mother didn’t tell us. I’m sorry.’ Joanna’s eyes filled with tears, and Rafferty, under the attempt to comfort her, saw the answer to his dilemma and took it.
