~Flashback~
It’s her second year at high school, and she’s still a junior, but he fell instantly in love with the blond girl with legs that stretch all the way to heaven! Mateo’s never been shy and talking to girls has always been pretty easy for him, but this girl makes him nervous, even scares him a little, but he just can’t seem to avoid looking at her every chance he gets.
When she walks up to him, all he can look at are her beautiful legs, and he has to force himself to focus on the fact that she’s actually talking to him.
“When are you going to stop ogling me and ask me out?”
“Huh?”
“You heard me. Come to my house on Friday, say around seven. I’ll make you some really hot coffee, and we can talk.” She turns around and walks away, and he feels his heart leave his chest and float right after her.
~End of flashback~
Thinking back to that day, he can’t help but laugh at himself. He thought he was untouchable, but boy did she touch him! He later found out that the reason she made HOT coffee was so that he would have to stay longer. There was no hidden meaning behind it. She was straightforward, said what she thought, and never held back.
Watching her now, he realizes that she’s not changed one bit. She dances from one guy to the next, making them drool and then leaving them hanging. He has to bite his tongue not to laugh at their facial expressions when she walks away.
She’s still just as dangerous as she was all those years ago, and although he was scared that she would break his heart yet again, he couldn’t stay away from this minx. His sweetness, his first love.
“Why on earth did I ever let her go?”
“You thought she would come back. She always did.” He realized he must have said it out loud as William appeared beside him with two beers. William’s girl was working the late shift behind the bar. It didn’t really surprise Mateo that the entire group of girls, including Maggie each, had a shift. Cheryl explained that Maggie had the strangest life mottos. One is, why pay for drinks when you can get paid for them.
Everything he heard about her reminded him more and more of the girl he used to know. If only he could get the courage to tell her who he really is. No, she knew. Cheryl introduced them, but she didn’t recognize him. Was he that insignificant in her life when they were younger? That question was one of the millions he used to convince himself not to tell her. All he wanted to do for now was just keep an eye out, so she didn’t get herself into trouble, but from what he heard around the club, she was the trouble everyone wanted to get into.

“So?” Cheryl asks Maggie when they leave the club. Mateo was walking with them to make sure they got to their car safely, but he was a couple of steps behind them talking to his friend.
“So what? What do you want me to say?”
“Is he a player?”
“Honey, I have no idea. I was too busy trying to find a yummy to drag home with me!” Maggie bursts out laughing and Cheryl rolls her eyes.
“Okay, fine. I honestly don’t know. Although I didn’t pay much attention to him or take the time to get to know him, he seems to pay attention to you.”
“But is he going to break my heart?”
“Oh, no! Don’t tell me you have already fallen for the guy?!” Maggie rolls her eyes, but she already knows the answer to the question. Cheryl lost her heart too easily and, in the end, she would be shattered when the latest man didn’t feel the same and broke things off with her. One of the reasons Maggie preferred using the players as her personal playthings. She never expected them to fall in love with her. Although it looked as if some of them did. She never planned for anything more than just a fling, and only a one-night fling. She hated the idea of more than one night because it would give them ideas that she wanted a relationship, which she didn’t.
Her side of the car’s door is opened, and she realizes that she was so lost in thought that she didn’t even notice him being so close. Even though she smelled alcohol on him, she could still smell his aftershave. It triggered a memory of someone she knew a long time ago, but it had to be a coincidence. She must be really drunk if she was thinking about him right now! Sliding into the seat, she flashes him her sexiest smile, and he closes the door for her.
“Wow, a true gentleman.” Cheryl winked at him, and they pulled out of the parking area.
“No, no, no. Don’t even go there. All of them are gentlemen until after the third date. Once they’ve had you, their true colours show, and we both know the third date is the s*x date.” Waving her index finger through the air, she makes Cheryl giggle.

Mateo sighs and William pats his shoulder.
“Oh, dear, my friend. You have got it bad!”
“You are one to talk. If I’m not careful, you might just marry that girl in the club the moment you find someone who will perform the ceremony!”
They laugh, before saying goodbye. William's little side piece is waiting in his car for him, and this time she’s not going home with her friends. Mateo just hopes that he knows what he is doing.
Mateo wasn’t looking forward to the day filled with meetings ahead, but he couldn’t neglect his business for a woman that might just break his heart again, but then he remembered the feel of her skin underneath his fingers and the taste of her sweet lips.
Damn, she was literally his poison and he couldn’t get enough even though he knew she might kill him in the end. Shaking his head to clear the direction his thoughts were going in, he started his car and made his way home.

Maggie walked into her house and the first thing she saw was herself in the full-length mirror. Except for her pale face, which was due to all the dancing and drinking, she looked better than she had in all the time she was married. Her legs were tanned and toned again, her mom belly was gone, and she could wear clothes she hadn’t been able to wear for years.
It was expensive to try and rebuild her clothes, but it was worth it in the end. She jumps into a shower to wake herself up and wash away the stench of alcohol, made herself a cup of strong black coffee, grabbed her bag, and left for work.
She was feeling exhilarated, even if she didn’t get any. Likewise, she has to admit that the last guy was pretty good, and that has to be the reason she’s feeling so good. The endorphins were probably still running through her veins.
For once, Mr. Robinson didn’t work on her nerves and even her day at work was great until she got home and realized she had to be at the club in half an hour to stock her bar. Both she and Cheryl were working the first shift, but at least the tips were good, and it meant that she wouldn’t have to pay for her drinks tonight.
That was the one thing she promised herself. From that day she walked out on her marriage, she would take care of herself. Never-ever would a man be able to say that he was the one who took care of her, when in fact it was the other way around. She had it tough in the beginning to get used to carrying all her bills on her own, but now that she looks back on those days, she was in fact paying both their bills.
Working at the bar was just part of her new image, and she didn’t really need the money, but it was fun. She regretted it the next morning, but the fun was worth it.
She bursts through the double doors that keep the club closed and rushes to the back of her bar in the club, rushing to pack her stock in the fridges before the owner comes around to inspect everything. The double doors are opened, and people start rushing in wanting drinks. For the next three hours, she doesn’t pay much attention to who might be there. It’s Friday night. The busiest night of the week and although she knows most of the people here, she only gives them a quick “Hi”, takes their order, and moves on, or she will never get through all of them.
When her shift is finally over and the next girl takes over, she grabs Cheryl by her arm, so they can change out of their uniforms and start their own party for the night.
