Fighting with his umbrella, Rain waved at Pip with his free hand. “I work until four, so Bernie is gonna be here instead!” he called out through the Frost fence. “Don’t forget you have your French tutoring at lunch time!” But Pip didn’t respond, and walking with his head hung low, entered the school. Rain tried holding up the stupid and cheap umbrella against the wind, but eventually gave up and closed it as best he could, folding the thin metal skeleton. He pulled the hood of his sweater over his head and looked around for a place to toss the umbrella. He saw Bernie’s car in the parking lot. She honked at him and waved. “Get in here,” she yelled.
