Hating My Mate

Chapter Three

-Nova POV-

Harvey chuckles looking me up and down. “I’m not sure I could handle you, to be honest.” 

“You’re right, you couldn’t handle me.” I say shifting my hips in a sexy move. 

“Ouch.” He says checking me out. 

He is one of the warriors in training and one of Dominic's best friends along with Gabriel.  

“Hey! Hands of the ladies.” Helix says to him. 

“Rose is mine and Stella is not for you...” He looks at me and then back at Harvey. “You can have Nova.” 

I squint my eyes at him. “You little turd.” He smiles and goes back to his food. 

Rose and Harvey laugh. 

(That little ass.) 

“So we’ll be having a new Alpha pup soon huh, how does Dom feel about that?” Rose asks Harvey. 

I roll my eyes not wanting to have this conversation. The last thing I want to hear is about him.

“He’s fine, he likes Luna Charlize and since he is the firstborn, the baby is not really a threat to him.” He says. 

I roll my eyes again. (Men.) 

“What, don’t like what you hear?” Dominic’s deep voice comes right from behind me.  

I turn my head back and give him a side look. His blue eyes peer down at me. His full lips would make any girl want to kiss him. His muscles almost don’t fit in his shirt. But it does nothing to me, I'm not saying that I don’t find him attractive, it’s just that he really pisses me off. 

 “I really don’t care either way when it comes to you.” I say in a monotone voice. 

He gives a fake laugh. “And you expect to be ‘beta’?’” He spits out the beta part. 

I turn around and completely square off to him. “I am going to be beta, and there’s not a single thing you can do about it.” 

“NOVA!” Stella shouts at me. 

Rose looks at me with her eyes bulging out and so does Harvey. Helix however stands watching us closely. 

Dominic growls at me. “Someone like you could never be beta.” He says. 

My eyes go behind him and then back at him. I roll my eyes and straighten up. “Not up to you.” I try to act cute and innocent now with my voice a bit higher. “It’s true, you don’t have a saying on who gets to be beta.” I give him an innocent smile and his eyes squint in confusion. I would be trying to piss him off more right now, but I stay quiet, and for good reason. 

“Unfortunately, no.” He says. “And because of that, this pack is going to suffer. You are too wild for this pack and you need to learn your place.” He growls out. 

“Dominic!” Alpha Maximus walks over to us looking angry.  

I lower my head hiding my smile. 

“Dad...” Dominic lowers his head and so does everyone else. 

“Don’t you have better things to do than to pick a fight?” The Alpha asks him n an angry tone. 

“But-” 

“No buts, your eighteen and not a kid anymore, lead by example.” He says. He doesn’t speak loud but his voice has so much command in it. He gives Dominic a pointed look and walks away. 

I stifle a laugh. Dominic looks at me with anger. “You knew he was there.” 

I flip my hair at him and turn to the side giving him a side glance. “You can’t prove that.” I stick my tongue out at him and walk away taking Rose and Stella with me with Helix following us but not before he gives Domini a glare. 

I leave Dominic growling and irritated.  

“You do know the reason he doesn’t like you is that you don’t submit to him, right?” Rose says. 

“And you’re a trouble maker.” Stella says as if she was reminding her. 

“Yea, that too.” Rose says nodding. 

“Yep, but that’s too bad for him. Why should I cater to his ego?” I say. 

“Because he is our next Alpha?” Stella says more like a question. 

“He is not Alpha yet." I say. "And if he wants any loyalty from me, he has to prove that he is worth it because right now he is just an ass to me.” 

Rose sighs. “You are crazy.” 

(Maybe I am. But I can’t help it, my wolf is dominant.) 

It’s not unusual for beta females to be dominant but I will agree with my mother, I tend to go overboard. 

“I don’t know why you don’t like him, he has been nice to me.” Stella says. 

I roll my eyes. That’s all I seem to do whenever the conversation is about him, but I get what she is saying. Throughout the month that we’ve been here, she and Dominic have become friends, and Rose has gowned up with him. Apparently, I am the only one in the pack that dislikes him. Well, Helix seems to dislike him too but he’s not as vocal about it as I am. 

We walk back to mom and dad.  

“Girls, come, you remember Alpha Declan from the River Bed Pack neighboring ours.” Dad says and looks back at the Alpha. “And this is my son Helix.” 

Me, Stella, and Rose look up at a very handsome man. He has light brown blondish hair, green eyes, and a scar on his left eyebrow.  

(Of course, I remember him.) He is one of the trainers in the monthly rankings. He is around twenty-one and tends to be very quiet. 

He stares at me and I smile awkwardly. I look away hoping he won’t tell my parents of the trouble I have caused in the training grounds. 

He nods at us with a serious expression and we do the same. 

They continue their conversation but Mom turns to us. “How are you feeling Stella?” 

Alpha Declan gives us a side look watching us.  

“I’m ok.” She says shyly knowing that the Alpha is watching. 

“Ok, go home if you are not feeling well.” She says and Stella nods. 

Luna Charlize walks over to us with a big smile.  

“Congratulations.” My mom says and hugs her. 

They have been friends since they were little. 

“Thank you, Astra. Maximus and I are so happy.” She says. They start talking about babies so we all leave them. 

For the rest of the party, we walk around talking with pack members but I make sure to steer clear of Dominic. 

Around late afternoon, we head back home to the second packhouse. Stella's room is right next to mine and next to hers is Helix's room. Mom and dad's room is right in front of ours. 

Once I take a shower, I head to Stella's room. She is still taking a shower so I lie on her bed. 

(Will we really find our mates?) We grow up anticipating it, that’s all we want in life. To find our soulmates. I want to find mine but I am a little scared.  

Stella walks in.  

“Hey.” She jumps on the bed and lies next to me. 

“Don’t worry about tomorrow Stella. You are with me so you’ll be fine.” I say. 

She nods. “I know, I feel safe with you.” 

I smile. “Good.” 

“Girls.” Mom opens the door. “You girls ready for tomorrow?” 

“Yea.” We say together. 

“You have your extra clothes packed?” 

“Yea.” We say. 

“Good.” She sighs. “So, the party that you want to have for your birthday, it is on Friday night?” 

“Yea. We wanted to have it the same day of our actual birthday.” I say. 

“And the fact that it is on a Friday made it even better.” Stella says. 

“Ok, the Alpha has allowed you to have the party in the empty house at the end of the road. Your father and I will be having dinner with the Alpha and Luna that night.” 

I sit up with my legs crossed. “Thanks, mom.” 

“Anything for our girls.” Dad says walking behind mom and hugging her. 

She gives him a kiss and leaves. 

He crosses his arms and leans on the door frame looking at us. Stella sits up and we both look at him curiously knowing that he wants to say something. 

“Have either of you been attracted to any males lately?” He asks. 

“Dad!” Stella shouts embarrassed. 

“No, not me.” I say. 

Stella shakes her head. 

“Not even Dominic?” He asks. 

“What! Definitely not, I hate him.” I almost shout outraged. 

“Oh come on, that’s a little too much.” He says. 

I sigh. “Ok fine, but I don’t like him... at all.” 

"You know, sometimes even negative attraction could mean a mate attraction." He says smirking trying to tease me.

"Eww N. O. NO." I make an X with my arms.

He chuckles. “And you Stella? I’ve seen you talking with him.” 

She smiles. “He’s nice but I don’t really know.” 

He smiles. “Ok, ok. I’ll drop it for now. Love you girls.” 

“Love you too dad.” We say. 

He leaves and I get up too. “He’s crazy.” I whisper to her and she giggles. 

I head to my room and close the door and sigh. 

I think of Dominic as I walk back to my room. “Never him.”
