Fresh Meat

Amber I couldn’t believe that an upperclassman was talking to me. Wow — this really was a new start for me. He was wearing a varsity jersey with our school logo and the number 8. I would never tell him, but 8 and 88 were my favorite numbers. “So are you gonna ask me about myself or just keep checking out me and my fresh outfit?” His smart comment brought me out of my daydream and to the present. I gasped and felt my cheeks warming. Could I be any more immature? “I’m sorry, I just think it’s strange for a varsity player to be talking to the fresh meat of the campus” I volunteered as my excuse. He would not be getting me to admit I was checking him out. “Fresh meat? You’re a new student?” He said incredulously. “Yes, yes I am. This is my first year in this town and I am starting a new school.” I replied. We had moved from the bigger city to suburbs because my dad had wanted my mom to stop working and just relax. He told me my mom deserved a life where she didn’t have to want for anything he could give to her. That’s the kind of man I wanted to be my husband. Sweet and devoted, but still a working family man. “Well thank the Goddess for that! I’ve never seen any one as beautiful as you at this school” Jamar replied. He was laying it on thick and I was loving every moment of just being close to him. “Can I walk you to your first class? I just want to make sure you get there without any hassle.” He asked so sweetly and I was getting ready to say yes as we were interrupted. “Hi baby! I’ve been looking for you, why didn’t you meet me at our regular spot with everyone else?” A female voice said. I felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. I should’ve known that an upperclassman wouldn’t truly be interested in meeting and getting to know me. They only want one thing and new girls are usually the easiest targets. Not me though. My dad and I had a talk before I started school. He warned me that guys would use any excuse to get in my pants. While s*x wasn’t a big deal to my parents, they explained that it should be consensual and something to be had between a couple that was committed to each other and each other only. Jamar I was making good progress with Amber. She had allowed me to walk into school with her while we continued to talk. Or while I continued to talk I should say. I noticed that she was checking me out. Like really observing me. My hair, my jersey, and even my shoes. I decided to tease her a little bit to see how she’d react. “So are you gonna ask me about myself or just keep checking out me and my fresh outfit?” I could see the embarrassment in her eyes and plump cheeks which made me feel like a jerk. “If you hurt our mate, I will never talk to you again!” Gideon interjected. I was about to tell him off when I heard something that blew my mind. “You’re a new student? Well thank the Goddess for that! I’ve never seen anyone as beautiful as you at this school.” I said truthfully. Nobody kept my attention like Amber did. That was weird, but I brushed it off. I asked if I could walk her to class because I was a selfish fool. I knew if I let her walk away from me, dozens of people would be checking her out and planning to woo her. I barely knew her, but I knew I wanted her to be mine. Forever. What am I thinking? Gideon? Are we feeling the mate bond? I still had so much to learn about my wolf side, but I never got to ask my dad because he left us. Right now, I can’t tell you that. Keep her close and make sure she’s protected at all times. Gideon’s reply made me angry. Why couldn’t he tell me? Why would I keep her close and make sure she was protected if she wasn’t mine to begin with? As if right on cue, things went from bad to worse. “Hi baby! I’ve been looking for you, why didn’t you meet me at our regular spot with everyone else?” A female voice said. I immediately knew who it was: Aliana Enriques. Her and I had been friends with benefits since our Sophmore year. She had been by my side since my dad left and I never had the heart to correct her because I didn’t want to hurt her feelings. She knew other girls came on to me, but I never entertained them because I wasn’t a fan of sleeping around. My boys loved to compete and see who could sleep with the most people, but Gideon was completely against it. He didn’t even want to sleep with Aliana, but it had become our coping mechanism. “Hey. I was about to walk my friend Amber here to her first class. She’s new.” I replied dryly. Amber looked like she had the wind knocked out of her and I could see the emotions warring in her face. Aliana looked triumphant, she knew that Amber would turn me down if she thought I had a girlfriend. “See you around Jamar DeLeon. Thanks for talking to me.” She looked up at me and said before squaring her shoulders and walking away. Jamar DeLeon? Nobody ever calls me by my full name. Only my mom when she’s mad at me. Wtf? I thought to Gideon and myself. “JD? JD! What the hell was that?” Aliana began to question me. I just turned and began to walk to the cafeteria. I felt conflicted. Aliana was my girl, but I wanted Amber more. I kept thinking about her high bun and megawatt smile. I could feel all eyes on me as Aliana and I walked into the cafeteria hand in hand to our usual table.
