The adults laughed and exchanged stories as the older children hung onto every word Jace and Gemma said. They were reliving some training mishaps they each had with me and my brothers and told everyone some of the new adventures they had been on since the last time we had seen them. Sadie just sat in comfortable silence, watching everyone's interactions and just absorbing it all in.
As soon as dinner was over Clarissa and the grandparents left to put the youngest kids down to bed, which was half of them. While the older ones helped clear the table off, Gemma was complaining about their hike up here and how they had to do it after Sadie put them through a grueling hike the day before. We all laughed at Gemma's complaint but even Jace and his wolf, who were both seasoned warriors and no stranger to arduous trails, complained how much they had struggled to keep up with Sadie's wolf. Once everything was cleaned up and done for the night, the rest of the kids headed to their rooms and we made our way up to my office which was located across from Clarissa and my room.
I stretched and opened the windows a bit before deciding whether or not I wanted to smoke a cigar. With the glare Gemma flashed at me I decided against it and just slumped into the chair at my desk. Gemma had sprawled out on the couch while Jace had decided to raid the mini fridge I had tucked away in a corner. I hadn't seen these two since they were young teens and now here they were almost full grown adults trying to get away with raiding my alcohol cabinet.
"Don't," I heard Sadie say sternly as she watched Jace in her peripheral vision.
Jace looked like a disappointed puppy and put the beer back in the fridge and came back with a can of soda for himself and the girls instead.
I couldn't help but laugh, I could almost see his ears and tail tucked. Sadie was calm and poised next to Gemma but every so often I could catch the faintest scent of anxiety despite the power of authority I could clearly feel radiating off of her, "Let's get down to business before we finally call it a night."
Sadie sat up and composed herself in a more professional manner and sat across from me at my desk, "Jace tells me that some asshole pulled some kind of power move and basically took your pack and even though you yourself are essentially a trained soldier you want to get the kind of specialized training the twins got, is that about right Alpha?"
"It's Sadie please," she cleared her throat and fidgeted in her seat as she had to recompose herself again when her eyes suddenly flashed a shade of silver, "Brandon and his mate surprised everyone with what they did, especially since I not only grew up with them as my best friends but he was suppose to be my Gamma when I was named Alpha. I'm not looking for reasons to explain or justify what he did, it's done. My parents, their ranked members, Gemma and Jace's parents among countless others are dead because of their greed and that is unforgivable. If you decide to take me on as a pupil the skills you teach me will be used to exact our revenge, I won't lie or beat around the bush about my intentions. I want revenge for what those two did. Brandon and Alice will be paying in blood for their crimes, it has never been a matter of if it's just going to come down to a matter of when."
I sat and thought for a moment. She was honest and straightforward and I liked that, it's a trait that will take her far as an Alpha. The skills that my brothers and I had taught to Gemma and Jace and other warriors of the Elite in the past were taught with the intent of protecting their Alpha in times of war and yes the skills taught were intended to neutralize their opponents as fast as possible to make a quick escape and get them to safety so they can finish dealing with the threat but this was different, this was vengeance, "I appreciate your honesty Sadie so I will show you the same level of respect to you as an Alpha and be honest with you; I can't, with a clear conscious, teach you the same skills I taught Gemma and Jace," all three of them were about to protect when I raised my hand to finish, "That's not to say that I won't train you, in fact, Gemma and Jace should be a part of these lessons to. Instead what I want to teach you are some skills that would help you disable your enemy if they were the size of, well, a bear."
"Huh?" All three asked in unison, clearly puzzled about my decision.
"If you can take a bear down you can take down any wolf. Alpha size or not our mass alone makes us a little harder to gain an upper hand over. We're built like a damn 500 pound train," I laughed, "We'll train for about a month and by the end of it you'll go up against my brothers and I. If you can pin us our training is done, otherwise we'll go again for another month and so forth."
"And if I can't, pin you that is? What then?"
I laughed thinking she was joking half heartedly but then saw she was serious, "You don't realize how powerful you are do you?" I asked a little shocked, "The legend says that you will be the one to unite the tribes in a time of war but aside from what some old tale says I could feel your Alpha energy the moment I walked through the door, that's why my bear broke the surface briefly, he could sense you as a threat."
