CHAPTER 11The following two weeks became an anticlimax for nothing out of the ordinary happened. The weather remained sunny and everyone took advantage of it to make Bramingham Monastery more like a home. Doors and windows were opened to allow fresh air through and dusty corners cleaned. Vegetables from the garden were gathered and the sheep allowed to roam on the plateau pastures for several hours a day. Final firewood was brought down by hand and a wheat crop planted by the nuns earlier in the year harvested and thrashed. Villagers used their skills to the fore and soon bags of flour were stacked in the dungeon along with barrels of pickled or salted food.
