CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO: Knox's Guilt, Catherine's Confusion

CATHERINE’S POV: The morning sunlight filters through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room where I lie awake, my mind swirling with questions. Yesterday has been peculiar, to say the least. Knox's behavior has been different, off-kilter somehow, and I assume that something is amiss. It had started innocently enough, with Knox's heartfelt words on the balcony - ‘I love you and I'm sorry’. I thought it was just his way of empathizing with me. But as the night wore on, things took a strange turn. After coaxing me to sleep beside him in his bedroom, Knox had drifted off into slumber before I did. Yet, even in his sleep, he seemed troubled, muttering those same words over and over again. What is he sorry for? And why did he feel the need to profess his love in such a manner?
