“Manny, who is Aleah?” I finally blurted out as we sat at the bottom of the pond, looking up at the surface. We’d been talking about random things for a while, and I tried to subtly get him to tell me, but he was either ignoring my hints or just not catching them.
“Who?” He feigned ignorance.
“I promise it wasn’t my intention to eavesdrop, but..” Manny gave me a side eye. “Fine, it was totally my intention, but I heard you with her in your room. What’s going on, Manny? Why did you leave your coven? Who’s the girl you’re protecting?”
These questions had been burning in my mind since I overheard them talking. Manny, sat up on the rock we’d been lying on. He narrowed his eyes at me for a moment, before sighing, causing air bubbles to lift to the surface.
