“What promise was that?” Aurelia asks a little too loud.
“Shh!” Mila shushes her.
“Tell me.”
“Come here,” she gestures that she wants to whisper it.
They're careful not to wake Hera as they lean over her and near to each other. Mila whispers in her sister's ear. She tells her promise with Leo back when they were on the island about the thing they will do when they come of age.
“What?!” Aurelia reacts, her mouth wide open and her eyes almost glowing in the dark.
“Shh!” Mila shushes her.
“Father's gonna be mad if he knows.”
“I know and that's why I want you to stay quiet about it. Just promise.”
“Okay.”
They lie back down, staring at the ceiling but with smiles on their faces. Mila is a bit embarrassed to tell it to her sister while Aurelia is, once again, deep in thought.
“I wonder how it feels,” says Aurelia.
“Doing it?”
“Not that! I mean.... knowing that someone loves you.”
“Oh... Well, you know that we love you so much.”
“I know but that's not what I mean.” She lies sideways, facing away from Mila to hide her blushing.
“You mean, romantically?”
“Yeah.”
“It feels...” Mila hesitates, trying to think about a way to say it without being awkward. “feels... warm. Sometimes I get butterflies on my stomach whenever I remember him. I feel so safe when he's around.”
“Yeah, Leo is very strong.”
“He always is.”
“I wish I have a boyfriend that watches over me too. I need one more than ever because I'm crippled.”
“What? I thought you and Darius were together now.”
“Who told you that?!!” she exclaims, sitting up suddenly.
Hera groans because their noise woke her up. Mila gently strokes her head to make her fall asleep again.
“Who told you that?” Aurelia asks in a whisper but the surprise is obvious in her voice.
“No one. It's just that you two have been spending a lot of time together that I feel that something is going on between the two of you.”
“Nothing is going on between us!” she insists, in an airy embarrassing whisper.
“I observed how Darius mellowed down. It started when he started to look after you.”
“He's still annoying and dumb as always!”
“I can tell that Lord Darius likes her,” says Hera, yawning.
“Hera?!!” Aurelia yells.
“You're awake all this time?!” Mila asks, swallowing. How much did you hear?
“Nothing much,” she giggles.
“I'm serious, what did you hear?”
“That you had a promise with my brother,” says Hera, sitting up and rubbing her eyes.
Mila gasps, staying away from them to sit on the edge of the bed. She covers her face. It's so red that it almost looks like it could glow like lit charcoal in the dark.
“It's not what you think, Hera!” she argues, not turning to face her. “I-”
“It's fine. I won't tell anyone. I'm okay if it's you, Lady Mila.”
The embarrassment Mila feels just floods even more. “No, you're too young to know about that, Hera!”
“Too young?” she asks, innocently.
“Yes, Hera,” says Aurelia, smiling awkwardly. “you're still-”
“But I saw Mom and Dad do it all the time.”
“WHAT?!!” the sisters yell.
“Leo and I do it to each other too.”
“WHAAAAT?!!!”
“Wait a minute...” Aurelia shivers, covering her ears and closing her eyes, hoping to forget about what Hera said. “Siblings aren't supposed to do that!! Let alone-”
“You and Lady Mila did it too in the garden earlier.”
“Huh?”
“Wait...,” says Mila, realizing something. “What do you mean, Hera?”
“Kissing,” Hera answers, confused why both of them are so worked up. “Mom and Dad always kiss. Leo kisses me on the cheek and forehead as I sometimes do to him. And you, Lady Mila, always kisses Lady Aurelia.”
Both of them sigh in relief but look at each other, trying not to laugh. They couldn't stop it and just burst out laughing.
“So that's what it is!” Aurelia laughs.
“What a twist,” Mila chuckles, wiping a tear from the corner of her eyes.
“What's going on?” asks Hera.
“Nothing, Hera,” both of them answer as they lie back down.
“Sleep now,” says Mila, pulling her to lie down with them.
Hera is still confused as they cuddle her from both sides. The sisters close their eyes smiling while she tries to think hard to figure it out. A few seconds later, she gives up and closes her eyes too.
It has been days since Sayuri and the others brought the people into their ship. They're traveling around the desert of Mars to search for people that need help. Right now, vengeance becomes second in her priority. She keeps her senses sharp to sense people around the desert. Hyun, Jasper, and Jack are with her flying in the sky. It's until they reached the end of the desert that they decided to land.
“Oh, fertile land,” says Jasper right after transforming from a bird.
“Yeah, we are near a big body of water, after all,” says Jack. “This must be as far as rain on this planet can go further.”
“Unlike Earth, Mars has only a few oceans.”
Sayuri walks ahead, leaving the three of them behind. There are trees not more than a kilometer away. That's where she's going and they follow her.
