As Emma's body lay still against mine, I could feel a blanket of calmness wash over me as I watched her sleep so peacefully... Having her safe in my arms, knowing that at this moment, as long as she was lying next to me, I would be able to protect her, was the most satisfying feeling I had ever felt. I could feel every nerve in my body relax as I allowed myself to slowly sink into her side, getting closer and closer to her skin but still keeping enough distance to allow her comfort. I did not want her body temperature to become dangerously high once again. I wanted her to be able to sleep comfortably in order for her to regain her strength for as long as she could before the intense fever returned.
