I go to the top college in the country. Not only because my parents forced me into it. But also, because I do enjoy education. Ever since I was 13, I wanted to be top of the class. I always worked hard and was self-motivated. I don’t receive much support or encouragement from my parents who are too focused on making my older brother into the Alpha they need him to be. But that has never stopped me from achieving what I want to achieve. I always get great grades and even received a scholarship to go to the college I study in. I currently study Business Management and I love it. I dream to run my own company someday. Since I can’t become Alpha, that will have to do. I suppose that is the closest I can get to having some power.
Being the Alphas daughter, I have picked up some very useful traits. Leadership is certainly one of my best traits. It is what drove me towards studying Business Management. I personally feel like that is something every werewolf needs to be able to do. But that is not how our society works. There are those who lead, and those who follow. It is a flawed system. But there is no changing it. What can one small female do in this big cruel world? If I ever step out of place, I can risk getting banished from the pack and the grounds. Since werewolves are pack animals, my inner wolf would hate that and probably drive me crazy. So, for now, I am left in my little bubble of joy. Trying my best to achieve my dreams. Nothing can stop me or steer me off my path. Or so I thought.
“Did you hear the big and exciting news?” asks Kate. I snap out of my daze and give her a confused look. “What do you mean big and exciting news?” I question with a smile. Kate is a very outgoing girl. She gets excited too quickly and always blows tings way out of proportion. That is why I love her though. She makes boring things more exciting and fun.
“There are some students coming from the neighboring pack today. I heard they are considering joining our colleges together to increase facilities,” she explains. I roll my eyes. “Big news? How is that big news? Unless you want to go out and meet new friends,” I chuckle. Neighboring packs always come to our college on exchange programs or to join in training. The packs surrounding ours are all allies. My father is a very peaceful and wise man. He made it his goal to make peace among our packs and to work together to raise the most powerful and successful wolves the history of werewolves has seen. It is a pity he can’t do the same with his own son.
“They are an all-male college,” she explains and wiggles her eyebrows. I see Ryan lift his head from him books. “Did you say all-male!” he asks, a little excitement comes from his voice. Kate nods her head. I am still confused. “It means a bunch of unmated males are coming to our college,” explains Kate. I roll my eyes again. I don’t care about mates. What is the joy in finding a man who gets to tell you what to do all the time? That does not sound appealing to me whatsoever. None of us have found our mates yet. I hope Kate finds her mate soon. She has always talked about how much she wants to find the perfect man for her and have his kids. There is nothing wrong with that. It is just not for me. I want to conquer the world.
“They are coming just in time for training too!” squeals Kate. Ryan seems pretty happy about this. Perhaps he wants to finish training early today. He does seem a little tired today. Something must be keeping him up at night. “So what pack is it today?” I ask her. Kate jumps up and down in her seat. “That is the most exciting part, they are from the Harib pack,” she says excitedly. I nod. The Harib pack is known for having some of the most powerful wolves in the entire world of werewolves. They are all put to some form of training the day they turn four. This includes both males and females. For some unknown reason, this pack is male dominant in population. Usually a pack contains a very balanced ratio or more females than males. This means that a lot of their males are unmated, increasing the chance of them finding a mate outside of their pack grounds.
What if one of these men is my mate? How bad could it be? I guess there is a high chance that this man is going to be ‘hardy’ and ‘manly’ which is not exactly a good thing. Probably cocky like most of their kind are. I hate that. But it wouldn’t hurt to have someone love you unconditionally. Mates are selected by the moon goddess. She selects the perfect mate for each wolf. There is no explanation as to why she does this. All I know is that when you find your mate there is no doubt about whether it is your mate or not. Your body is taken over with incredible feelings of security and lust. Apparently, finding your mate is the best thing to happen to a werewolf. I don’t believe that. But that being said, I have never met my mate. I could be pleasantly surprised.
I go abut my day as I usually would. I go to all my lectures and enjoy my lunch with my friends. Time for training comes upon us and I can feel the excited energy in the air. A lot more people show up to training today than any other day. Mostly females of course. Desperately searching for their mates. Most of them are probably going to be disappointed. Including me.
