chapter 9 Casey Waters POV

2139 Words
Morgan and I shifted at the same time. I looked over at her and was amazed at what I saw. Morgan’s wolf was a beautiful midnight black with smudges of amber on her coat. She was an inch shorter than me like she was in human form. The thing that took me by surprise was her eyes, they were almost gold and breathtakingly beautiful. Not many wolves’ eyes change when they shift, it was truly a rare sight to see, and it usually came from a long like of alpha blood and power. It was a true mark of strength. No wonder she hardly let her wolf have complete control, she feared her own power. I howled my thanks for a blessing like Morgan in my life to the goddesses before nuzzling my head under Morgan’s neck. It was an instinctive sign of trust and submission, something only bonded wolves can do. We made our way, side by side, into the woods. We were mind linked now so I could communicate with Morgan, she could read my thoughts and I could read hers. We ran freely through the forest, throwing all caution to the wind. All wolves had their ‘spot’ where they marked as theirs. Mine was on the edge of the cliff face that faced the sea. It was a beautiful place to spend the night with my mate, a place to watch the stars sink into the seemingly calm water. We ran as fast as we could, enjoying the carefree nature of things. We jumped and frolicked and threw all caution to the wind as we enjoyed the fun of being together in our true forms. I lead Morgan to the cliffs edge with ease. I had never brought anyone to my spot, to me it was an intimate act to bring anyone to where you spent nights alone with your thoughts and the peaceful sounds that calmed your soul. There was a perfectly caved hole in a large rock where we laid next to each other and watched the stars talk to one another. This is our place now; I would never have to sit alone again. We spent the night playing and grooming each other and just enjoyed the company of the other. We let our natural instincts take over and everything else became a blur and background noise. We were like little kids enjoying our first time as wolves until our energy ran out and we passed out. Morgan’s head resting next to mine with my paw over hers as we slept peacefully just as the sun began to rise above the horizon. I woke up with the warm sun over my face and Morgan curled into my side. We had fallen asleep in the caved-out rock. Lucky for us because shifting usually shreds your clothes resulting in us being naked right now. I was more than content lying here with Morgan’s naked body pressed against my own. I looked up at the sky trying to work out the time with the position of the sun. It seemed like it was around midday. I looked back at Morgan and admired her. Even in her sleep she was beautiful, absolutely content and at peace. I wondered what she was dreaming about as I watched her smile. I ran my hand down her smooth body and over her mark. I groaned at the electricity that coursed through my veins and the need that suddenly spiked. She was an absolute turn on. She moaned as I continued to graze my fingers over her mark. I placed my hand over it before leaning over her and kissing her temple. “Casey, please… do not start something you are not going to finish.” Morgan mumbled. “Oh, I fully intend on finishing this my love.” I grinned. “But not here, let us go home.” I said. She rolled over and looked at me with sleepy eyes. I kissed her simply because I could and because she looked so adorable half asleep. “Let us go home.” Morgan said. We got up and stretched, our muscles pulling and bones popping. I grabbed two sets of clothes that I kept here for cases like this when I woke up naked from a nightly shift. I handed a pair to Morgan and we quickly got dressed and made our way through the forest and back to camp. Everyone was already back and going about their daily routines. As we made our way to our home I greeted my pack mates who all seemed to be in high spirits. I opened the door for Morgan, closing it behind me. The air smelt different, a delicious sent of warm vanilla flavoured cherries. The smell was intoxicating and delicious. It was nothing I had ever smelt before and I could tell that it was affecting Morgan the same way, making our head cloudy and our bodies warm. If this were what it would be like coming home I would never leave. It was comfort and bliss all wrapped up into one. I made my way to the kitchen in deep need of coffee as Morgan made her way to the couch, making herself comfortable like she had been living here all her life. It made my heart swell with the thought that she considered this place hers as well. I busied myself with making coffee for Morgan and I, half lost in thought and half concentrating on what I was doing. I need to speak to my parents about Morgan and the secret that they were keeping from me. I took the two finished cups of coffee and walked over to where Morgan was sitting. I placed the mugs on the coffee table and sat down on the couch, Morgan instantly curled into my side. We sat there, not saying a word, just enjoying the soft fire and each other’s presence and sipping our coffee. Half an hour later I got up, taking our empty mugs with me to the kitchen. I washed the mugs and set them to dry. I turned around in surprise when I felt Morgan’s hand on my shoulder. “There is something troubling you.” She stated. “Yes, I need to speak to my parents, it is time for some answers.” I said drying my hands, kissing Morgan’s forehead and making my way to the front door. “You should rest baby.” I told her. “I will.” She replied. I smiled at her before opening the door and walking out, letting it shut behind me. I made my way to my parents’ cabin and knocked on their door. “Come in.” I heard my father say. I opened the door and walked in. “Hi honey, this is a pleasant surprise. Did you and Morgan enjoy your night?” my mother asked. “Hello mother, father. We did enjoy the night; she will be my Luna.” I informed them. “that is wonderful sweetie. We are so happy for you two.” My father said getting up and joining my mother in the kitchen. I took a deep breath before saying, “I need to talk to you, both of you. It is time I knew the truth, that I knew what this big secret is.” “Casey…” my mother started. “Tessa it is time she knew.” My father interrupted. “William are you sure, this could change things drastically.” My mother whispered. “I am sure my love. She will lead this pack soon and she should know its history.” My father said before turning to face me. “take a seat honey.” He said. I did as I was told, taking a seat in the one-seater closest to the fire. My parents sat down on the three-seater couch in front of me. My father placed his hand on my mother’s knee as they turned to look at me with serious looks on their faces. “It started well before your birth. There were two packs, the leader of each pack were brothers, alphas in their own right. The one pack, the Blood moon pack, was led by Elijah Grey and the Bane pack was led by Morgan’s father, Lucas Grey. The two were at war with each other, a war that lasted over a decade. We were allies with the Bane pack, had been since my grandparents were leaders of this pack.” My father started. “We do not know how the war started or who striked first. All we know is that the two packs disagreed on how things should be done. The Bane pack believed that we should help and protect other wolves and fae no matter what their rank was. The Blood moon pack believed that Lucas was wrong, that packs should be lead by blood status and ranks, that we should all be divided and segregated by status. So, a long war began. Our pack backed the Lucas’ pack because we believed them to be in the right. And a new pack, the Mist moon pack, backed Elijah’s pack.” As my father paused I noticed his jaw clench and his eyes go watery. “Father what happened? Please I need to know.” I begged him. “Ten years into the long war you were born. Your mother and I were beyond happy. We had been trying for years to have a child and when you came along were knew that you were a blessing from the goddesses themselves. When you were born we drew back out of the war. We still offered our support but refused to fight in any way. It was a big mistake on our part. Once we had withdrawn the Blood moon pack saw the weaknesses in the Bane pack. Six years went by and eventually Elijah won. He destroyed the Bane pack and its members, burned the entire place to the ground.” I watched in silence as a tear rolled down my father’s cheek. I had never seen my father cry before. I knew that he must have blamed himself for what happened to the Bane pack all those years ago. “When we went to the ruins of the Bane pack we found nothing but dead bodies. We thought that everyone had died. So, we buried the bodies and made our way back home. We would often hear rumours that Lucas’ two children had survived, that they were living with the Mist moon pack. His son, Adam and his daughter, Morgan. We tried our best to find out if the rumours were true but there was only so much we could do. The day Morgan arrived here we knew that they were true. We were surprised that her and her brother had survived and had been living for years with the enemies. The Mist moon pack leader Mason Mateo is a ruthless man and must have taken the two children as some sort of sick trophy.” My father finished. “That means Morgan is a seventh generation alpha and the rightful alpha of the Bane pack.” I said. “Yes. If Elijah ever found out that she existed he would have her killed.” My mother said sadly. “She is my mate and soon to be Luna. I will do anything and everything to protect her and keep her safe.” I said. “We know that honey, we know that you two are bonded. And there is a reason for that and the link between your rune mating mark.” my mother said calmly. “What do you mean?” I asked. “that rune mate mark is very old. It not only combines your strengths but also your weaknesses. it mind links the both of you as well as your souls. If one of you dies so does the other. It is a powerful mark. you can track each other through it, feel each other’s emotions. Its deeper than any mate mark there is. The reason you two are bonded is because there is a link in your past and hers, you two have met before. Perhaps not in person, but your soul and wolf instantly recognizes hers. It is an amazing thing to have a bonded mate. Something like that does not happen very often.” My mother told me. I was speechless. My mind was working overtime piecing everything together. “I need to go.” I said standing up. “I will see you tomorrow at the alpha ceremony.” I told my parents who each had a worried look on their faces. “Okay honey. We love you.” My father said as I made for the door, opening it and walking out. I needed to tell Morgan everything I had just learnt. When I walked into our home I knew instantly that she was not there. “s**t!” I cursed. Worry washed over me as I stormed out the door and into the woods. For some reason I knew that I had to go to our spot.
