"Bring her to the dance, please. I am the boss, at least obey me this much."
I was grovelling before Amelia, okay not grovelling but it was close.
"She will not come and I can't tell you the reason." She was one stubborn woman.
But she didn't know who I was. I left my parents, my home because I was stubborn enough to follow my dreams and not my parents. I had no interest in our family business, I wanted to be my own man.
I wanted to have a new beginning and now I wanted same for Aster.
"Do you want her to be broken for rest of her life? Do you want her to shed tears for someone undeserving? Let me help, Amelia." I tried being smart in persuasion.
Amelia looked troubled and conflicted, deciding whether she should tell me or not.
"There is too much sadness in those eyes," I whispered softly making her come to a decision.
"A man who hurt her is on the guest list." She gave me an ambiguous statement.
I tried to play my luck with the things I have heard from Amber.
"Someone she loved?" She was scared of attachments.
Amelia looked a little surprised but nodded in agreement.
"Is she at the flower shop right now?"
"Yes."
"I will see you at the party, Amelia." I got into the car , ready to go to the flower shop.
"With Aster?" She called out.
"With Aster."
I walked into the flower shop feeling... nervous.
"Good Morning Aster." I greeted and she didn't look up.
It worried me. There was something wrong with her.
"Aster." I moved closer to the counter.
I heard her sniffle. She had been crying.
"Don't look at me Kyler, I am a mess right now." She mumbled trying to wipe away her tears in a rush.
Heartbreaking.
"Aster, look at me." I pleaded, softly yet sternly.
She shook her head in a weak no and another trail of tears stained her cheeks. So I took matters in my hand and stepping forward, I cupped her cheeks and made her look up.
Her eyes were red, puffy and sad. I felt an ache in my own heart.
"Are you okay?" I asked gently.
Relief, surprise and gratitude flickered in her eyes.
"no one asks me that." She muttered.
"what?"
"No one asks me if I am okay, they just want to know what happened, how it happened but no one really wants to know how I am doing." She looked at me and blinked back the tears.
As I realised the proximity between us, I stepped away not sure if she was okay with it. But it surprised me how okay I was with it.
"I am sorry you have to witness all this. I already chose our flower for today." Something about the word our made me smile.
"It's okay." I assured her that I am turning into a fool and even now with tear streaked face she looked pretty to me.
"Daffodil." She sniffed and told me in a heavy voice.
"What does it symbolize?" I asked when she looked at the flower with regret.
"You will mock me now." She pressed her lips into a thin line as if realising a mistake in choosing this flower.
"I don't think I can mock a beautiful woman." I answered her with all the seriousness but she rolled her eyes at me.
She didn't believe she was beautiful, an opinion she needed to change.
"It symbolizes chivalry ,regard, new beginnings and happiness"
She was embarrassed, because she knew what flower meant but never did feel it herself. She was neither happy nor giving a chance to new beginnings.
I paid for the bunch and kept it with me.
"Can you tell me who made you cry?" I asked wanting to get some answers, any answer.
She gulped and then closed her eyes as if making a decision. She opened her mouth and then closed it again and then opened it again.
I looked at her with intensity not giving up this time.
"A man I used to love." She finally mumbled the answer.
"Will it make you feel better if you got some revenge?" Because I felt like kicking the a*s hole myself.
She laughed lightly, a sad laugh.
"No, I am not revenge kind of person."
"Then what kind of person are you?" I was intrigued.
"Umm...forgive but not forget." She was generous.
The man broke her even when she was already broken, how could she forgive?
"I will help you forget." I offered suddenly even before my mind could make sense.
"Huh?"
She was as confused as I was right now. What the hell was I doing?
"I will help you forget, if you do me a favour."
Her eyes had questions as to why I was doing this. It was amazing how expressive her eyes were.
"You said it hurt too much Aster, don't be in pain. Try to take a medicine so that it will slowly heal."
"What is the favour?" She finally asked.
"Come to the party."
A frown appeared on her forehead and I had the sudden desire to make it go away.
I gave her the bunch of daffodils.
"To new beginnings Aster." I encouraged her.
I noticed her clenching and unclenching her jaw when she finally looked at me with a new found strength.
"To the new beginnings." She whispered back.
It was a miracle in itself that she agreed on going to the party. Now the man who hurt her will see what he lost.
