Chapter 3: What did I do?

2714 Words
By the time we get our books and returned to homeroom, period 1 is almost over, which means Maths, argh I hate it so much plus I'm never going to pass without Max's help. "Max can you please help me out this year with maths, you know how crap I am at it. Pleaassse!" "Yeah, I will help you out as much as possible, but you know I am going for Dux, so I have to stay focused. Also, you owe me an ice cream once a month for this whole year." he jokes. He is like a genius but puts so much pressure on himself. I am always looking for a way to take his mind off the stress. Why not distract him with ice cream? "Yes, of course, I will aid your ice cream addiction," I say as we arrive back at the classroom, where Armstrong is guarding the door. "Hey, Max I think we took too long, someone looks angry." "Your right… whoopies." "Yes, whoops. I said to be quick. Not to take the rest of the lesson" Miss Armstrong scolds us. We are in some deep s**t "I am sorry Miss I had trouble finding my maths book and didn't want to turn up unprepared. Max gave me a hand, I am very sorry" I apologise, trying to defuse the situation, this teacher may dislike me but I don't want Max to get in trouble because of that. "I will let it slide this time, both of you get inside now and find your seats" she sternly states. We both keep our eyes focused on the floor and find our seats "Thanks Amelia for taking the blame for me" Max says looking guilty probably because he remembers every time, I have taken the blame in the past. Which got back to my parents, not ending well for me. "Hey Max, don't worry, its nothing. We got off with a warning anyway." "I know, but I feel bad because of what usually happens when you take the blame for me." "It's totally different this time, and plus that hasn't happened in a while. I have told you a hundred times I do not blame you. It was my choice to protect you and suffer the consequences. I will always be here for you, no matter what." I say trying to cheer him up. "Your right. I just worry about you sometimes." "I know, and that's why you are my best friend." I look up and see Miss Armstrong staring at us. It looks like she is in the middle of severe thought and by the look on her face she wasn't too happy, I wonder what she is thinking about? She suddenly snaps out of it, before dismissing the Class, "Alright everybody time for period 2, make sure you are present in assembly if not you will receive a detention. Enjoy your day." "See you, Max," he gives me his signature wink and nod before walking off. As I have Maths in this classroom, I grab my stuff to move towards the back but am stopped by Miss Armstrong's hand on my shoulder "and where do you think you're going, little girl?" Argh, here we go again with the little girl "just moving seats Miss." "Well did you ask permission to move seats?" "No, but I thought because it's a different class I could sit somewhere else" I quietly reply "You will sit in this spot in this class, and any other class you have with me is that understood" she is being so unfair, one comment that all I did and now she is picking on me. I hate sitting in the front. "But Miss. That is unfair, you haven't asked anyone else to move spots" I point out "I am the teacher, and when I tell you to do something you do it. So sit down this instant" she states firmly and with such a strong voice, that I drop straight down in my seat knowing I have no choice. I am quite scared of her, to be honest. She smirks at me, seeing the power she just had over me. "I will not tolerate disobedience little girl' she whispers in my ear before returning to her seat, leaving me with goose bumps at the way she just spoke to me. She starts Class by introducing herself, and what we will be doing this year, I am sort of listen but at the same time not. Halfway through the period, she finally starts to teach the first chapter, and I am already confused. f**k I hate maths. "What was that Amelia" Miss Armstrong asks, s**t did I say that out loud? Hopefully, no one heard. "Nothing, Miss, sorry." "Did you want to ask a question?" she pushes further, s**t I better just ask something to get her off my back. "Y-yes um I am a little lost, can you please explain it again?" I stutter my words. What I asked her was real; it just was not what I said. Miss Armstrong's expression kind of softens at hearing what I had to say, replying with "of course, this goes for everyone if you don't understand something and want me to re-explain it, I will. All you need to do is ask." Now that her attention is on me, I make an effort to actually listen. Every few seconds, her eyes flicker back to me, checking that I am following along.  As it's finally snack time, I quickly pack up my supplies and wait for Miss Armstrong to dismiss us. "You are dismissed, there will be no homework today but it will only be a once off." I am one of the first people out of the room, I head straight to my locker getting my snack out, and in the process, I spot Stacia. "Hey, Stacia how was your first two periods?" "They were great, I heard you had a bit of trouble with this new teacher." "Um, yeah. One comment and she won't leave me alone, I'm so pissed off. Did Max tell you about her taking my phone from me when everyone else was on their phone? Argh." We meet up with Max and spend the remaining 15 minutes of snack catching up. Before we know it, we are standing outside of our life skills classroom waiting for Miss Armstrong. "Max and Stacia I will warn you she might make me sit at the front; she wouldn't let me move during Maths." "That's okay Amelia as long as we sit with you it’s fine" Stacia points out, who by the way despises sitting at the front. She has always done absolutely anything for me, she is the best. I don't know what I would do without her. I spot Miss Armstrong heading towards the classroom, and I quickly turn around, pretending I didn't see her. She pushes past everyone, unlocking the door and heading to her desk. As I attempt to walk past the front row, she points to the front desk and says "Amelia don't make me tell you again" I put my head down and mumble "whatever b***h" to myself and head to the desk. My friends clearly hear me and snort behind me. They tell the two people who are seated next to me to "move!" I think Miss Armstrong may have heard what I said because her eyes are currently burning holes in my skull, s**t. I sit down and avoid eye contact. Throughout life skills, if I even looked at my friends, Miss Armstrong would make a sound like clearing her throat or coughing to get my attention. Which sucked because heaps of people were whispering with their friends,  "This is total bullshit," I whisper to them while her back is turned, they just respond by laughing. 8 min left of Class and counting 5 min left, why is it taking so long 3 min left 2 min 1 min 30 seconds 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. Finally, I am free. "Everyone is dismissed. Please grab your blazers from your lockers and head to chapel and assembly. Amelia, please stay back; I need to have a word with you." My friends look at me, and I just shrug as confused as them and tell them, "I will meet up with you after chapel, bye." After everyone leaves Miss Armstrong's attention is on me. "Little girl, please sit back down" I quickly follow her order "What is this about Miss?" "First of all, you will stop referring to me as Miss, and you will use my prober name Miss Armstrong, understood?" "Yes." "Yes what?" is she really going to make me say this Argh come on "Yes, I understand Miss Armstrong." "Good girl, now I'm informing you that at lunchtime you are to report to the year 12 coordinator for a meeting with him and myself. You will head straight from chapel to his office and will not stop anywhere on the way is that understood?" "Yes, Miss Armstrong, I understand, may I ask what this is about?" I ask nicely hoping she will tell me. "No, now run along little girl you don't want to be late" she is starting to piss me off is it that hard to use my proper name? I quickly grab my blazer and sprint off to chapel, well lunch is going to be interesting. "I know but I still feel bad" "It's totally different this time and that hasn't happened for a while. I have told you a hundred times I do not blame you and I choose to protect you and suffer the consequences. So, head up I will always be here for you." I say trying to cheer him up "Your right I just worry about you sometimes" "I know and that's why you are my best friend" I look up and see Miss Armstrong staring at us, but she looked like she was thinking about something serous by the look on her face she wasn't too happy, I wonder what she is thinking about. She suddenly snaps out of it and looks at the time realising its time for Period 2. "Alright everybody time for period 2, make sure you are present in assembly today if not you will receive a detention. Enjoy your day, class dismissed!" "See ya max enjoy your class" I say to Max he gives me his signature wink and nod. As I have Maths now and it's in this class room I grab my stuff to move towards the back but am stopped by Miss Armstrong's hand on my shoulder "and where do you think you are going little girl" Argh here we go with little girl again "Just moving seats Miss" "Well did you ask permission to move seats?" "I will not tolerate you disobeying me little girl" she whispers in my ear then returns to her seat, leaving me with goose bumps at the way she just spoke to me. Sweet I got away with that. I try to follow closely as she explains to see if I get it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally, it is snack time, I quickly pack up my supplies and wait for Miss Armstrong to dismiss us. "Class you may leave, there will be no homework, but this is a once off as it is your first day" I am one of the first people out of class as I am at the front and the exit is close to me, I get my snack out of my locker and spot Stacia.
