Chapter 4In the desert, there was a door. Yellow sand, turned golden under the glimmering sun, surrounded the door. There was a frame that seemed to fade into an illusion, a mirage, a trompe l’oeil, a trick of light. The knob was the only thing that was visible and study, and it black like a stone. Obsidian. Night. The door stood in the middle of the desert, nothing surrounding it. The horizon faded into white, then became blue. There was nothing else here. There was nothing else for miles. Felicity approached the door. She walked around its frame, past its borders, in order to see what was left behind. More sand, some of it sharp with glass and salt.
