I blinked and rubbed and rubbed my eyes as I looked around. I was lying on the concrete in the middle of the street. I wasn’t hit by the car or even hurt at some point; I just panicked and thought that I was going to be hit.
“Miss, are you alright?” I heard a man’s voice beside me. He was kneeling down and was trying to assist me. Is he the driver of the car that almost hit me? He looked concerned and nervous. “Miss? Are you hurt?”
I shook. All of a sudden, I remembered what was happening to me. I looked behind me and saw Nick coming out of their house. He saw me! He saw me and I saw that he was still holding his knife. I panicked again.
I got up and looked for someplace to run to but I was surrounded by cars.
“Is everything alright?” I heard a commanding and authoritative voice from the car that almost hit me. There was a guy who opened the door and was looking at us. An idea came to me and I didn’t have much time to think about what I did next. All I could think of was the fact that I needed to get away from Nick as soon as possible.
I got up and run towards him. “Please, please help me, help me get out of here,” I pleaded while stealing glances at Nick who was walking towards us. He’s drunk and won’t care about whether or not there were people around. I didn’t know what he could do after I pushed him hard that he fell down. I walked past the guy in front of me and entered the car. He was my last chance of survival. He needs to help me get out of there or else I would be doomed.
I saw the guy who was trying to help me approach the other guy and the latter just nodded. I didn’t know who these people are, all I know was that I needed a way out of there, and seeing that they almost hit me, they would be kind enough to give me a ride. I don’t care where they were heading just as long as it is far from this place.
I moved my head out the window. We can’t stay here. Nick is just around the corner. “Please, please, I need to get out of here!” I was nervous and was still in panic.
Both of them went inside after a few seconds. I felt relieved as we started driving out of there.
“Would you like to tell me what you’re doing here?” The guy beside me asked. It was a bit dark earlier on the road but now that we were closer to each other inside his car, I saw how handsome he is. He was wearing a black suit with a gray tie and he looked a lot like the ones in movies wherein he owns a company or something. Hell, this guy is the definition of a living god, he’s perfect from every angle.
I gulped when I saw how his Adam’s apple moved. Wow, he’s freaking hot and handsome! If this was in a different scenario, I would be daydreaming about this hottie. I got a hold of myself and focused on the issues I was on at that time.
I watched him carefully. I couldn’t read his expression but I can clearly see his furrowed brows. Who wouldn’t be curious if someone suddenly jumps into your car, right? I bet he has a lot of questions for me.
“I need… I j-just need to get away from there,” I stuttered. Now that he asked about it, the fear that I felt earlier came back. What if Nick finds me sooner? Is he going to threaten me again? How about my job? Where am I going to live now? How am I going to survive? I don’t have any friends or relatives here. What am I going to do now?
“Why? Are you running away from something? Perhaps, someone?” He has that smirk on his face as if he just hit a jackpot. Well, he was right. I was running from someone but it isn’t a part of his business anymore.
“It’s … none of your business,” I said a bit rude. I didn’t know him personally and even if he was doing me a favor, he can’t expect me to tell him things about my personal life. More so, the thing behind what happened at that house and why I was on the run at that hour.
“Well, I’d hate to break it to you but as long as you are in my car, you are my business,” He said in a serious voice. The playfulness that he had earlier was gone. Speaking of his car, this guy must be rich; he has a nice car and I guess, a driver of his own. Who is this guy?
“You almost hit me so; just think of this as a favor that you owe me for almost killing me.” I retaliated. I won’t back up just because I am inside his car. If there is something that I learned tonight, it is to be strong against any threat.
“You were the one who stood in the middle of the streets, Miss. That is not our fault if you ever got hit. You should be thankful that Ron here is an attentive driver or else who knows what would have happened to you.” He said. I didn’t know why but I felt as if he was blaming me for what happened. Well, it was technically my fault but if he only knew why I was running then he wouldn’t even put blame on me. “So tell me, who are you running away from?”
“N-No one… just stop the car. I-I’m going out,” I said. It was far from Mrs. Smith’s residence and I doubt if Nick was able to follow us. He was drunk and I doubt if he could drive his car at that state without getting into an accident.
Ron, who I assumed was the name of the driver, was about to stop when the guy beside me spoke. “Don’t stop,” He said, and as if on cue, the car moved faster again. I groaned. What does he want from me?
“What do you want?” I turned to him. I was annoyed. I have so much to think about now; a place to stay, my job, and Nick plus Mrs. Smith as well. I was kind of worried about her but I knew pretty well that Nick wouldn’t hurt her. He loves her even if he acts that way.
“It’s either you tell me what’s the deal or you’re going with me to the police.” He simply said it as if it was a simple thing. I was suddenly alerted when he mentioned the police.
“WHAT?! POLICE?” I almost shouted. He eyed me. What the hell? I don’t want any bad records while I am here. I cannot let him take me to the police for Pete’s sake!
