"Alice! Alice! Alice! It's time for breakfast". Alice's mum yelled her name from the kitchen. Alice was already drifting to sleep again after turning off her alarm. Hearing her mum scream her name meant her two younger brothers would be coming to jump on her bed and try to wake her up if she didn't come down fast. "I hate mornings! Alice muttered under her breath while still lying on the bed with her face buried in the pillow. Immediately she heard her door open. She knew it was her brothers, so she immediately forced herself to get up or else she would have to wash her sheets that morning. Hmm "Alright guys I am coming with you"! Alice said as she jerked herself up swiftly from the bed, stopping her brothers in their tracks to her bed. "Okay, sis" Jake and Peter answered in unison, turning immediately to the door. Alice changed her night clothes, brushed her teeth, and went downstairs immediately before her mum started yelling her name again. Running down the stairs, Alice greeted her parents and helped her mum dish out breakfast. When they were done, they said their prayers and started eating silently. When they were done eating, Alice took away the plates and cleaned the table. As her father and brothers retired to their rooms, Alice decided to open up to her mother about her plans to move. Right from childhood, Alice had a closer relationship with her mother, so she felt comfortable talking about everything and anything with her. "Mum, do you remember my friend from college"? Alice asks her mum to try to get her attention. "No, I don't remember her," her mum answered, looking confused. "Why, is there any problem," Alice's mum asked again, trying to remember who the friend was. "You remember Jane, the red-haired girl who slept over at our house because it was raining heavily and we called her parents to let them know"? Alice replied, trying hard to make her mum remember her. If she doesn't remember her, then it's pointless having the conversation because her mum will never agree to let her move in with somebody she doesn't know. "Oh, I do remember her now, the girl who couldn't sleep with the lights off"? Alice's mother replied, laughing. Heaving a sigh of relief, Alice laughs along with her mother, trying to ease the tension in the air. By this time, Alice had already finished washing and putting back the plates in the old cabinets that were already peeling. She dried off her hands and walked up to her mother in the sitting room. "I am so glad you remember her mum. I want to move in with her in Manchester, mum", Alice finally spilled it out after holding it in for over two weeks after she talked it out with her friend Jane. She said there are better job opportunities there compared to Yorkshire. And Mum, she has already gotten a well-paying job and she lives comfortably over there. I want to give it a try but I need your consent and Dad's", Alice said, trying as much as possible to convince her mum. After some minutes of silence, her mother breaks down sobbing and this makes Alice lose hope immediately."Mum, why are you crying? Say something Mum"! Alice begs her mum while quickly drying her tears. After her mother calmed down, she looked at her daughter and said to her "I am so sorry, you have to go through this for us, my daughter. I always knew that this day would come, but I didn't know it would come so soon. You have my consent but I will speak with your father. I hope he agrees". Alice's mum hugged her daughter after saying this and fresh tears started running down again. This broke Alice's heart so she started patting her mum on the back while saying that everything would be alright. After the conversation, Alice went to the laundry to wash their clothes with the little money she had left on her. This is one of the things she has always done since she started working. She would take care of groceries, laundry, and other little expenses, and her mum would take care of rent, school fees, and other bills and fees. Her dad lost his job after a huge fire incident at the company he had worked at since she was 8 and it burned and disfigured his hands, thereby rendering him jobless and disabled for the rest of his remaining life. After some time, everybody was done eating and she cleared the plate as usual. After she was done with everything she was doing, she joined the other family members in the sitting room. Hoping her dad will give a positive answer just like her mum, she silently waits for her dad to say something. After a few minutes of silence, her dad spoke up. Alice's heart starts beating hard against her chest as she awaits the decision. "Alice, listen! I never wished for this kind of life for any of my children. But what more can I say? Stay safe at your friend's place and continue to live by what we have always taught you, and I wish you good luck". After he finished saying this, Alice immediately rushed out and hugged her father. "I won't let you down father, not even mum or my brothers. I will hold you all very dearly in my heart. Thank you, Father"! Saying this, Alice's brothers also rushed over and hugged their sister. "Sister, get us an Apple phone when you start working," Jake said to Alice, almost crying. "Don't worry, I will get you so many other things too, I promise"! Alice replied immediately, assuring her brothers. They watched the movies and retired later that night.
