She became the very thing I lived for; without her, I don’t know what I would have done; maybe I would have committed suicide and left this world.
But I didn’t want to leave; I just wanted to find Angelica and Father’s killer. That reason alone has kept me alive, which stopped me from leaving this world, and yet, North shined a light into my life; it’s also what’s kept me living.
It doesn’t mean I have forgotten the killer of my loved ones; I am still going to take my revenge and find out the entire reason they killed them and not me in their stead.
I took excellent care of North; she was my future. I wished she was Angelica’s daughter; at least I could hold a part of her beside me.
We became very close, and before we both knew it, North turned ten.
Her identity, her gender, and her true identity as an Omega.
I became her big brother, made sure to always protect her from some predators out there who lust after little kids, especially when they are Omegas.
‘Please put some of these designer pins in my hair to make it even more beautiful, Bjorn.’ She requested with a cute voice.
I was braiding down her white hair to prevent them from disturbing her in class; her hair was actually long beneath her waist.
I smiled and took it away from her. “As you wish, princess, you know I will always do anything to make you happy, sweetie.”
She beamed and wiggled her little legs in the air while she was sitting on a stool, staring at the mirror.
I arranged it and patted her hair to make sure it was clearly neat before stepping away from it, stared at it one more time before fixing it again, carried her gently from the stool, and let her stand on her feet.
“You look so much like a damsel, princess.” I praised her.
“You think so?” she beamed as she played with her hands behind her back shyly.
“Yes, I think so, sweetheart, and now it’s time for you to go to school now before you get late, okay?”
I lightly kissed her on the lips before tagging her along so she could go to school.
I watched as she went to school, climbing the school bus. I waved happily as the school bus drove out of sight.
I cleared my throat and turned back. My entire family was still celebrating the new year with lots of love and happiness. As a dutiful son, I want to help them with whatever they need, and I will gladly help them out.
“Hey, Bjorn, help me bring in the blender; the neighbors need it. They lent it to me because it was urgent, and the store was closed. So, please make sure you return it in safe hands.” My mom stretched her hand as she handed over the blender to me, and I took it from her with a nod.
I wanted to go to the company to negotiate with some clients, but I wanted to stay at home for a little while and go get some presents for North.
“Alright, Mom. I will give it to John to return it to you since I’m busy.” John was our housekeeper and has been with us for years.
“Thank you, son.” She appreciated it and began slicing some onions. “Would you like to eat anything before leaving for work? Today is going to be hectic for you; you need all the strength you can.”
“Thanks Mom, give it to John to bring it over for me at the office.” I kissed her cheek with a smile. “Have a nice day.”
“And you too, my son.” She kissed me on the cheek, too.
“Hey! Over here.” One of my aunties, Jane, yelled after me. I waved and promised to see her soon.
On arriving at the supermarket, after coming back from work, my cousin Chloe, who was also my best friend, came along with me to go shopping.
“Let me guess,” she said, slightly frowning as she pointed at the items I had dropped on the cart. ‘All these are for North, right?’
“Yeah.” I smiled with a nod.
“You are not serious, are you?” She folded her hands across her chest.
“Of course I am,” I replied. “I want to get her a couple of presents for getting an A+ in her tests; she deserves it.”
“Yeah, she does.” Chloe rolled her eyes at me.
“What’s the matter? Are you jealous of her because your face says a lot that you are jealous of her?”
She scoffed. “Hmph. Why should I be jealous of her, huh, when you always act as if she is your wife?”
“More like a lover.” Ava smirked playfully as she wrapped her hands around our shoulders the instant she appeared.
“You and I both know North is such a princess, and Bjorn adores her more than anything.”
“And sometimes act as if she is his daughter.” Leen came out of nowhere as she added what she also thinks of me.
I laughed. “Can you guys leave me alone? What’s with all this popping out of nowhere thing? Is this some sort of plan or what? North is a child and needs to be taken care of. Is that a bad thing?"
“It’s not a bad thing, but among all your cousins, she is your favorite and gets your attention more than the rest of us.” Chloe pointed it out.
“How do I even do that?” I laughed at their silliness. “I give everyone attention; don’t I try as much as possible at everyone’s pace?”
“Of course you do that all the time,” Ava nodded. “For instance, if you got sick and couldn’t get up and do some stuff, we immediately understood, and we would be like, ‘Okay, Bjorn, take a good rest and take your drugs, okay'? You will nod your head and agree to take your drugs and rest. We felt bad and didn’t want to disturb you to help us with our homework and stuff. But…” She emphasized her words, asking Leen to continue her words.
“When North comes along to see you, you are all up and filled with energy; no matter how sick you are, you always help North and make sure she does her assignments. Even go as far as making sure she gets everything she wants by pretending that everything is fine with you."
“Even when she doesn’t eat, Bjorn panics.” Chloe mocked me as she giggled.
“Yes. Remember when he heard there was an accident on the way? That morning, North was going to school."
“Exactly, Ava. If I remember correctly, you could have seen the speed with which he morphed into his wolf form and dashed out of the mansion to go save North." Chloe laughed.
“He didn’t even let us finish saying that the accident happened close to our school back then and not North’s school."
The three of them both laughed at me. I felt embarrassed as hell; it was all true. I care about North a lot, but it’s not as if they are not important to me.
