Zeith “What did you do to me?” I asked loudly, looking up at the dark sky, and sighed. The night was starless and moonless. The breeze was cooler than most summer days. I reckoned it was going to rain anytime soon. Nonetheless, it didn’t stop me from being out here with the owls hooting and cicadas singing to accompany me. I was seated on a huge branch of a gigantic tree a mile away or so from the pack house. I wanted to be alone and think. I couldn’t do it in Beta Zeith’s room—rather my room—where Nevena was sleeping. I was afraid she would do something to me if I was present there. Maybe this was better, to avoid her. Besides, I wasn’t supposed to have s*x with her. Not that I wanted to do it,
