Zhivka I really wished I could see that girl again, but I had no idea where she lived. I was lucky enough to spot her when she came out of the woods in the middle of the day. I followed her into town, keeping my distance a few meters away. Zaebi! (F*ck it!) I really felt like a creep for stalking her. But I reasoned to myself that I wouldn’t do anything bad. I just wanted to see and observe her. Yeah, still a creep. I was well aware of it. Still, I couldn’t help it. I wondered if she already had a boyfriend, although she looked younger than I was. But who knew? She could even have a family already for all I knew, and this admiration I had for her was just… for nothing. All right, that was sad. Anyway, I wanted to know more about her… and yes, wanted to see more of her. So, without looking at my surroundings, which was just some buildings with a street in the middle, occasional cars, trucks and other vehicles that passed by, as well as other people on the sidewalks, it was just an ordinary day. The sun shone like it should on a summer’s day, and the body odors of some people mixed with the fruity one in the nearby fruit stall were just too familiar. I had known this town for years, but I seldom came here. I had rather stayed in Alpha Ivan’s territory, honed my fighting skills, swam in the falls or even felt depressed, but this girl happened. Suddenly, my mundane life became a little exciting and brighter. I was surprised to hear when the girl asked the store employee to get all she needed. That was when I learned she was actually blind! I was frozen in the middle of an aisle as I listened to their conversation. “Could you get me a box of cereals, one carton of fresh milk, uh… sliced bread and,” she paused and said in a low tone, “sanitary pads.” I slowly moved to discreetly peek at her behind a shelf while staring at her. She stood at the counter while the other girl working at the store took all the things she needed. I could not believe this girl who defeated the Lambdas was blind! At this very moment, she looked even more ethereal to me. After she paid for all of it, I followed her again towards the forest. After our hunt yesterday, I went back to where I last saw her, but I couldn’t see any cabin nearby. Not to mention, the Lambdas did beat me because of what I murmured, which Alpha Ivan heard and thus scolded them for being late. Why were they even? We had our mind link for telepathic communication. Well, maybe they did shut it to have some fun and lost track of time. I carefully followed the green-caped girl this time to not lose her. But then again, when she turned around that familiar bend where a giant tree stood, she was gone. I couldn’t even sniff her soft oriental and floral scent anymore. Was she a witch? That was the only thing I could presume right now, and that made my heart beat stronger. Is she really a witch? Why is she living here? Why is she hiding? There must be a good reason why she didn’t want her home to be known by others. For that, I would not have any idea how to get close to her. I sighed inwardly. *** I followed Beta Zeith with my light brown eyes when he walked out of the pack doctor’s quarters. It was a huge log cabin with two stories. Meanwhile, the pack house was actually a cave. It was a huge one with a lot of rooms and maze-like hallways. Lights used were from the pack’s sorcerer’s magic. It had different colors every night. Sometimes it was red, blue, gold or green. The rooms had little candles procured as well by magic. At the center of each room was a comfortable bed. Well, I could say it was nice compared to my previous life before joining the pack, since I used to sleep on the earth that was covered by leaves. Eventually, I tried to make a home under a huge fallen tree, but it wasn’t the same as now. My life at the pack house was easier than when I was alone. At the other end of the pack house was an exit-entrance to the falls. The waterfalls hid the entry way, where there were secret guards that were on rotating shifts every five or six hours. I was never tasked for it because I was the Omega, meaning the weakest and wasn’t qualified for the said duty. The ones with higher ranks were always on duty, except for the Beta. I couldn’t help but overhear the short exchange between Beta Zeith and the pack doctor, Grozdan. The latter was in his forties with box beard and short brown hair. “The lynx is not harmed when I caught it, as you requested, so it will be good for the ritual,” Beta Zeith said to Grozdan. “Perfect! It remains asleep for the time being until the right time has finally come. You should prepare yourself, Zeith,” Grozdan told him. A ritual? What’s the ritual for? I wondered. I averted my eyes when Beta Zeith looked in my direction. “Hey, Zhivka! Come here!” He used his finger to beckon me. I couldn’t do anything but do as told. I looked up at him with questioning eyes while his light brown eyes with a hint of orange roamed my face, as though caressing it. I almost grew goosebumps by the way he stared at me. The conifer and musk scent of his had always been a welcome one to me, unlike the others that were either strong or foul. Not really my kind of scent. “Prepare yourself for the upcoming Full Moon. You’ll be with me for an important task. Alpha Ivan has already asked me to tell you this,” Beta Zeith informed me. “Prepare for what kind of task?” I asked curiously. Deep inside, I was happy I was given a significant task! Finally. “You don’t have to know it for now. You’ll know later,” Beta Zeith replied and left me just like that. I was left with jaw hanging. I was really excited, and I couldn’t wait for the ritual.
