7. Feelings and steak

1336 Words
Jason chickened out at the last second. Their lips were a hair apart when he pushed away. “I-I think you have something on your lips,” he whispered before wiping the edge of Oscar’s lips with his thumb. Oscar’s skin felt soft — like those of babies. “Thanks,” Oscar muttered, and for a while there, Jason saw frustration quickly flash in the boy’s eyes. Then, taking a deep breath, the rich boy tilted his head, held one of the wine bottles up, and said, “I found the wine we were looking for. Shall we take this party upstairs, Jason? We have a karaoke room there, and we can blast as much music as we want.” Oscar is taller than Jason by some inches— maybe four or five? And it turned him on, seeing the boy’s muscles flex while holding that bottle. Was Oscar doing that on purpose? He couldn’t tell. The only thing Jason knew was that he was starting to have a major crush on him. “I would love that. Can we have steak along with this? I am famished. I think my body is craving for some protein.” He winked at him. Oscar saw him and laughed. “You are already drunk. Look at you. Your face is way too red. I think we should eat first.” Oscar then went to the door and tapped on the device. “Yes, master Oscar?” A female voice came out of the speakers. “Hi, Rosa. Can you please tell Chef Toni to prepare two medium-rare steaks? We will be on the patio when the steak is cooked. Thank you.” He then went back to the cellar to take Jason’s hand. “Come on, let’s get you some fresh air.” Oscar dragged him up the stairs and back onto the patio. The wine glasses they left had bees swimming on them. They laughed at it and requested a maid to get new ones. The maid came to them, not just with new glasses but also a bucket full of ice. “Thank you, Rosa. You know what I need,” Oscar said out loud although the maid wasn’t there anymore. “Who are you talking to?” asked Jason with furrowed eyebrows. Was he really the drunk one or this lovely boy with him? “Just appreciating Rosa. Sit here. I will have the fireplace ready.” That was the only time Oscar let go of his hand. The young boy then turned his back on him and walked into the fireplace. It had a few wood blocks beside it, and Oscar didn’t take long to have the fireplace burning. Satisfied by the size of the fire, he then went back to the bench seat and sat beside Jason. “Is that cozy enough?” Oscar asked as he looked at him in the eyes. “Yes, thank you.” Jason wanted to say more but opted to shut up and lean on Oscar’s shoulder instead. “You know, I have been your fan for the longest time. So I was pretty excited when I learned that my assigned locker room was next to yours. I waited for you to go out last night, that’s why you found me there. I wanted to meet you in person.” Oscar chuckled after saying those. He then looked at him and gently cupped his cheek. “You inspired me to join UOFC. Your charisma inside the ring is just overflowing, and I could not get enough of you.” He then dipped his face and lightly pecked Jason on the lips. Jason felt as if he was on Cloud Nine. His crush had just kissed him, and he couldn’t help but smile about it. He was so happy that he could die in his next game, and he won’t have any regrets. “How did you get to know me?” Jason did not know what to say. Thus, he ended up blurting that stupid question. He wanted to take it back, but Oscar had already opened his mouth. “I went to train in an old gym before, and I saw you sparring with someone there. You didn’t stay long in that place, though. A couple of months after I saw you, and the next I heard, you already left and entered the competition.” Jason turned silent while thinking. Not knowing what caused Jason to be quiet, Oscar asked, “Did I say something wrong?” “No, it is nothing like that. . . I was just wondering why I can’t remember you.” Jason tried to remember every face he stayed with inside Elliot’s gym. He assumed that Oscar was in the same place Alpha Garsen rented for him years ago. That should be the same place, right? FLASHBACK “YOU ARE READY TO JOIN THE NEXT SEASON, MY BOY,” Alpha Garsen said excitedly while looking at him from the ringside. Elliot just gave him a three-minute break, which he used to lie down on the mat. “I will get you the best training facility soon. Yep, something better than this.” Jason didn’t respond fast and just kept breathing deeply. Then tilting his face to the side, he felt a sudden rush of electricity run over his body. It was like he got an energy boost. “So. . . when are you planning to do that?” Alpha Garsen tapped his fingers against the ring’s floor. “Be patient, my boy. I still need to make a few arrangements. I will let you know the next time I visit you.” Then just like that, the alpha walked out of that place, and for the next few days, Jason had found himself more energetic. PRESENT “HEY. ARE YOU STILL WITH ME?” Oscar asked before snapping his fingers in front of Jason’s face. “Yeah, I am here,” he responded absentmindedly. “I said, the food is here. Let’s eat while it’s still hot.” Oscar then opened the silver lid to show him two full meals. Fancy was modest to describe what was served. They were inch-thick steaks served with mashed potatoes. A small, silver, lamp-shape bowl had some kind of soup in it too. “Did you order us to take out?” Jason jokingly asked. He perfectly knew that Oscar had requested this from their chef. “This is something I only saw on a restaurant’s menu. I never thought I would be able to eat this here,” he even added. “Just enjoy. This is me showing my gratitude for you asking me out.” Oscar then placed one of the plates in front of him. He then settled beside Jason as they watched the scenic view of L.A. during the night. “Thank you. I am fascinated by your hospitality. The next time you are in New York, don’t forget to visit my place.” Jason sliced the steak. It was just how he liked it. He rarely ate this type of food since he had been saving for his allowance. As he took a bite, the flavor of the meat exploded in his mouth. There was just the perfect amount of salt and pepper to enhance the beef. “This tastes so good. Oh, I need to ask your chef how he did this,” he couldn’t help but mumble as he chewed his food. Oscar swallowed his food first before he talked. “Sure, I will ask him tomorrow before we get back to New York.” “Thank you. I am looking forward to meeting him. Man, this is so good,” Jason continued praising as he tested the meat with gravy. Delight instantaneously showed on his face— it was to die for. They ate in silence as Jason enjoyed every bite he took. The fire continued to dance, and it made the night even more romantic.
