"What the hell?!" Alex said as she eyed me with wide eyes. Her face had paled and I could tell she was trying to understand what was happening.
I stood with my mouth open as I stared at her. For the first time, I didn't have any excuses and I wasn't sure what to tell Alex. I wasn't supposed to tell her the truth, right? Barbara hadn't said anything about Alex and I cursed myself for not asking her earlier. I couldn't keep this secret from my friend, at least, not for long. She would start to notice that I was disappearing every afternoon and that I would always go into the woods.
If I knew Alex well enough, which I did, she would follow me to know what was going on. For some reason, I thought she would take it the wrong way if I wasn't the one to tell her the truth.
