Chapter Four There was a long silence where Frances seemed to be mulling over Connie’s words. Understandable, really, since there had been a lot of them. Connie kept quiet, but her heart pounded as she waited with increasing anxiety for the other woman’s response. She killed time by adding milk and sugar to her tea and stirring it. Eventually, after taking a sip of tea and replacing the cup back onto its saucer, Frances met Connie’s eyes and gave a nod. “Not that it’s for me to comment, but I think you did the right thing. Leaving him, I mean. Maybe the running away part was a bit extreme, leaving your belongings, home, and job behind, but you obviously felt you had no other option.
