Kyle's Pov:
The game was afoot. I smiled to myself feeling exited about the new development at the lake house.
I sat in my study unable to work but also unable to get my of her. I could smell the aroma of a delicious meal being prepared, it smelled spicy and exotic. I’ve never really loved spicy food but this smell had my mouth watering.
I decided to call it a day and moved to the dinning room. “Smell’s great, what’s for dinner”
She gave me a shy smile “I made butter chicken, it was one of your aunts favourite meals”
“Sounds great, I’ll get some wine”
As I passed her she glared at me from underneath those long lashes. I just smiled as I passed her.
I grabbed a bottle Riesling, knowing the sweetness of the wine would compliment the spicy food.
I walked to counter where she was working and purposefully bend over her to grab the wine glasses. I watched as her body tensed and the way she gripped the spoon tighter.
I smiled again knowing she was not as unaffected but me as she wanted to be.
I walked back to the table and poured the wine and then placed her plate and wine glass closer to mine, I didn’t want to stare at her across the table, I wanted her closer. She stared at me and then at the table arrangement when she walked in with the food. I saw the questioning look and decided to ignore it.
To her credit she didn’t say anything she just dished our food and took the chair next to mine.
I taste the butter chicken and it was extraordinary “This is great, did your mother teach you how to make this”
Her hand froze halfway to her mouth. “No she never had the chance” she kept quiet for a couple of seconds before she answered again “Actually your aunt taught me” I her eyes turn watery. “She was a wonderful and kind lady”
I cleared my throat feeling a little guilty. Before my aunt’s death, I hadn’t seen her in more than 15 years, I did make the occasional phone call, but I never came to visit her again. After that summer I never wanted to come back here again.
“Yeah, she was. I used to spend all my summers here, it stopped the year I turned 18”
She looked at me and I almost drowned in the green orbs “I know she spoke of you often, she was very proud of you”
I immediately felt uncomfortable and steered the conversation back to where I wanted this to go “So you never asked me about this morning”
Her brows scrunched up “What do you mean?”
I laughed “You must have thought I was crazy, running around searching for a woman, that I didn’t even know”
“No of course not” she looked really uncomfortable, but she was determined to not ask any questions.
I decided to push her just a little further “I came in last night with a woman lying in my bed”
She jumped up “I just need to check on the dessert”
She walked out and I smiled, she was such a mystery to me, but I was determined to solve it. I had this unexplainable need to find out all her secrets.
She walked back quietly and sat back down. I decided to give her a break and not return to the incident of that morning. “So you started working for my aunt when you were what 17, 18”
She gave me a side glance and just nodded her head “You never wanted to go to college”
She put down her fork and looked up at me “I got a full scholarship to Ohio State, but my mom got sick and I needed to look after her. Your aunt offered me this job and we needed the money so I took it. After my mom died you aunt offered the garage apartment to me and I stayed on”
“And now, ever thought of going back to college?”
“I turned 28 last month, I think my time for college is over, plus the fact that I have to be able to support myself”
“Yeah but surely there must be a way”
“Look I know you don’t really need a housekeeper, but if you give me some time, I can look for a new place to stay and a new job”
“No, no, that’s not what I meant, I just wanted to get to know you”
She looked really fragile and unsure of herself “Oh” she got up and started clearing the plates, she brought me some dessert but she didn’t sit down again, I could hear her cleaning the kitchen.
I walked into the kitchen and she switched on the dishwasher. “I’m finished for the evening Mr. Carmichael, I’ll see you again tomorrow morning then”
I had somehow offended her and I was going to have to try and fix it tomorrow.
As she left my phone started ringing, I answered it without checking who was calling, distracted by Jane.
“Kyle”
“Hi baby, I have been trying to get a hold of you”
I was immediately annoyed “Sorry, I am just so busy writing this book”
“Did you have dinner yet?”
“Yeah the housekeeper made me something”
“Good. You sound distracted”
“Look Greta, can I phone you back, I just need to finish this chapter”
I could literally hear he pouting on the phone “Of course”
Before she could finish I had already put down the phone. The attraction I felt toward the housekeeper was unexplainable and honestly a bit of a hinderance and I honestly knew of only one way to get a woman out of my system. Seduce her.
