Chapter 3

We haven’t seen Emily in Paris, I renewed our Netflix subscription. There are some popcorn in the kitchen cabinet." Yolande remarked before heading to the kitchen to fetch some. "I am aware of what you did there, Yolande, but I'll overlook it today. Your clumsy attempt to change the subject didn't go unnoticed." Bree yelled. "I'm sorry, sweetheart, but I can't watch you two savage each other. Emily in Paris is the finest option.” Yolande stated as she walked in with the popcorn and soda bottles. They settled back to watch the show and quickly forgot about the pressing matter, if only for a few hours. Bree had an 8:30 a.m. dental appointment to fix one of her canines, so the next day was chaotic. Too much sugar was causing her teeth to rot. But would she give up sugary foods? Bree Trager would never do such a thing. Courtney, Yolande's half-sister, was meant to meet her for a short breakfast. She was well aware that the lady only met up when she wanted to get a few dollars from her. When Yolande noticed an email she had received two days before, she saw an opportunity to avoid meeting her. Her neglect in checking her email on a regular basis caused her to miss the circular about a meeting with the RECYCLING CLUB she had joined last summer. She irritated her half-sister when she called and cancelled the meeting. But did she give a damn? Without a doubt, no. Ariana had an Embryology class at 9 a.m. as well. She drove to the lecture theatre after dropping off her friends. The lecture lasted an hour, with an hour break between it and the three-hour embryology practical, she needed to eat before the practical. She went to a fast food restaurant and got a hamburger and a milkshake. She walked over to a volleyball court to eat her breakfast and gaze at the sweaty bodies of attractive athletes. She was completely absorbed in her lunch and the sight unfolding in front of her when she felt her hand lightly brushed her . She raised her eyes to see Shane. Ariana's best male friend was Shane Malone. They met at a sophomore's party and he was studying accounting and finance. Among the several parties scheduled for sophomores, Ariana only attended that one. Shane had handed her a drink, and the two had immediately struck up a conversation. He was really approachable, and the two have been friends ever since. Shane was from a wealthy family, though he didn't talk much about it. Ariana was unconcerned with Shane's money; all that mattered to her was that he was a nice friend. "Hey, kid." She stated with a smile on her face. He sat next to her, ruffling her hair. While leaving the house, she had let her hair down and curled the tip a little. "You look great, as always." He said this while sneaking a glance at her. She laughed and handed him a burger. “Thanks. When I called last night, you indicated you couldn't talk about your interaction with your uncle over the phone. How did it go?" As he savored a large chunk of burger, he inquired. Ariana groaned, realizing she'd have to retell her story. He had enquired about the outcome after she told him she planned to meet her uncle for financial assistance. She described what transpired at the location and her job experience. "I'm heartbroken to hear this. That's terribly unfortunate, Ari, and I'd like to help you pay your college tuition. I have enough, and I can't stand seeing you suffer like this." He said, his voice tensed. Ariana was moved by the compassion, but her pride prevented her from accepting help from anyone. "Shane, no. I don't want to cause any inconvenience." She gave a response. "Inconvenience?" Shane enquired. “I'm confident I'll figure something out." She explained and took his hand in hers. "You don't have to feel as if you owe me anything or that you're bothering me in any way. Ari, I care about you; you're my best friend, and I can't sleep at night knowing you're in some sort of problem.” He didn't give up. Ariana sighed and drew her eyes closed. Why couldn't others see that her unwillingness to accept help had nothing to do with her relationship with them? It was just that she didn't like it. "Shane, I appreciate your willingness to assist. I'm not going to accept it. I declined Bree and Yolande's offer to pay a portion of my rent. I'm not going to drop out of college; I'll pay my rent and get my tuition fee." She stated it in the hopes of persuading him that she didn't require his assistance. "All well, if that's what you want, I'll respect your choice. Just know that I'm always willing to help if you need it." He stated. "All right, Shane. I've got a practical in ten minutes. I have to leave now." She stood. “Alright.” He responded and hugged her. She waved and raced away, knowing she just had 9 minutes to get to the lab. ###Chapter 4 Four Ariana had her last lecture for the day and went home. Bree had returned from the dentist's appointment but Yolande wasn’t back yet. “We girls need to loosen up tonight. I’ve got a reservation for us at Plush Lounge. A few drinks and dance to some beats is needed.” Bree said as applied a cleanser on her face, she used it to wipe her make-up. “I wasn’t planning on going out tonight, I’ve got a few things to do.” Ariana complained. “Things to do? Like what? Don’t forget we've made promises to make best out of this year. I've texted Yolande, apparently she went to see Courtney after the meeting with the club members. I think that’s the reason for her not being around.” Bree said. “She’s into this too?” Ariana asked. “Yes, she is. Don’t be such a spoiler. It’s going to be fun and we can even get laid tonight.” Bree said and giggled. “Arghh, not interested in getting laid. I will go just to have fun. How much did you get the tickets? “She asked. “I didn’t buy. There are ways to go about these things.’ Bree replied. Ariana rolled her eyes and imagined what her friends did to get the tickets. Hope it wasn’t related to getting laid, she thought. Anything was possible, Bree was wild in nature. “I saw a moisturizer at a store today when I went to get some toiletries. It was laid on the shelf with other products. I actually saw it once on the net and the compositions are really good. I'm thinking of getting it and replacing my cleanser. This is giving me some black spots.” She said and pointed to her cheeks. Ariana inspected her cheeks and couldn’t find any black spots, typical Bree. “You’ve got no black spot, let your skin breathe and take a break from numerous products you bombard it with.” Ariana said. “What are you? A skin specialist? A dermatologist? You know nothing about skin care. When was the last time you went for a spa treatment?” Bree asked. “That’s not the point of this conversation. How much is the moisturizer?” She asked. “$115.” She replied. “What?! For a moisturizer? All my skin care products don’t even worth $100!” Ariana exclaimed. “Don’t crucify me yet, wait till I get it with a new cleanser.” Bree said and threw all the wool she used for applying the cleanser into a dustbin. “You mentioned going to the store, have you restocked the finished products in the house?” “I forgot.” Bree replied and resumed polishing her toe nails. “When you’re done, we should go shopping.” Ariana suggested. “Girl, we can do that tomorrow. I'm doing this routine to get ready for clubbing not to go through stores in search of things to buy.” Bree said and grumbled. “I will give you 15mins to be ready.” Ariana said and went to her room. She shared a room with Bree, which was the bigger room while Yolande took the smaller room. Minutes later, Bree came knocking on the door. She entered and stood by the door while folding her hands across her chest. “You haven’t changed your mind?” Bree asked, and really hoped she received an answer she prayed to get. “No, I haven’t.” Ariana replied. “Okay. Whatever your plan is, just know we’re going to that club tonight.” Bree said and stormed out if the room. Ariana went into the kitchen to take note of the things they needed to buy. They soon left for the grocery shops. It wasn’t really a tedious shopping, Ariana was a very organized shopper. She knew where to go to get what she wanted. They arrived at the apartment to meet Yolande. “Bree told me you went to see Courtney after the meeting.” Ariana said while arranging the goods into the fridge and some in the cabinet. “Yes, I did. I had no choice, she kept calling and sending messages.” Yolande explained. “And you couldn’t block her number?” Bree asked. “That’s too extreme. No, I didn’t do that and I won’t.” “What does she want this time?” Ariana asked. “Se needs money to pay off her dealer.” Yolande explained and sighed “Tell me you hit rights in the face.” Bree said and hit her forehead in frustration. “No, I didn’t. I called my mum and she’s going to help her with that.” Yolande said. “If you keep helping her, she will never stop coming for more.” Ariana said. “Thank you, Ari. Even the peace lover seemed to agree with me. Yolande, call off this girl. If you need help with that, you know where to get me.” Bree replied “Alright girls, let’s get ready to party!” Bree said and forced her friends to leave the kitchen. The crowd at the club was enough to suffocate an indoor person like Ariana. Bree pushed her way through the crowd and spoke with the bouncer, whom she peeked and he smacked her ass. She winked at her friends and they followed her inside. “Apparently, you got laid for these tickets.” Ariana screamed, the loud music made it difficult to communicate in the normal audible range. “I got to do what I got to do. Enjoy girls.” Bree said and soon left them. Ariana looked helplessly around but found the seat with the number on her ticket. Yolande and her settled down and they watched Bree ordered drinks for them. “What the hell is she doing?” Ariana asked. Bree tucked some money in her cleavage, held the drinks and moved towards the bartender. The young man grinned, had a eye full of perfectly round breast, slipped his hands into the dress and took the money. He didn’t only take the money, his hands curved around Bree’s left breast and he pinched a n****e, all thanks to her not wearing a bra. “Bree’s serious about getting laid tonight.” Yolande commented and laughed. “Wow, wow, wow. I knew Bree's wild but not to this extent. We're really in for a show this last year in college.” Ariana said and couldn’t hold back her laugh. Bree returned with the drinks and soon gulped down some of the bottle's contents. She started to wiggle to the music. “See ya at the dance floor.” Bree said and moved away. Yolande soon stood and Ariana remained the only one at the seat. She looked around and spotted a gorgeous blonde. She took some of the drinks and regretted taking it, Bree’s influence. Adriana was a teetotaler. She shot her eyes as the drink hit her throat and ran through her system. She opened her eyes to see the blonde staring back at her, she blinked and looked away. She returned her gaze and saw that the blonde was walking towards her. What should she do? She wanted to run to the bathroom but she didn’t even know where it was. Where was Yolande and Bree when she needed them?
