Chapter Six

Ami ”Ami, you look beautiful.” Those were the first words out of Dewi’s mouth as he scraped bid chair back and stood to meet me. Taking a step forward, his huge hand closed about my hip as he bent to brush his lips over my cheek. And for a second I froze as we parted. We didn’t move, just started at each other as if we were mesmerised. Then he stepped away, clearing his throat and the spell broke. ”Thank you.” I was blushing and I knew it. As I took the seat opposite him. Glancing about me I took in the restaurant. I had never been here before but it felt oddly familiar. Still it was easier looking around than it was looking into his face. There was too much heat in his eyes for this not to be a date. “How are you?” His eyes didn’t leave my face , leaning forward as he took his own seat.i hope you like the restaurant?” His eyes glinted, the corners of his mouth tipping up at the ends. As if he was trying not to laugh at something. Was I missing something? I glanced around again. “It’s very nice. Shall we…” I wanted to get straight down to business because this was most definitely not a date. I had even taken a cab and met him here. So definitely not a date. “Let’s get some drinks and order first.” He cut me off easily. His tone making it impossible to argue with him. I hated men like him. The self assured bossy ones. Or at least I usually did. On Dewi it was different. I found it charming The way he took charge. “A vodka and lime for the lady.” He motioned with his hand towards a passing server . Who stopped instantly as if she had run into an invisible wall. “Real Lime, not cordial.” He grinned over at me. “Two wedges of possible and lots of ice.” I could do nothing but stare at him with my mouth open. How did he know what I drank? “How?” My eyes searched his face. I had no doubt he had checked out my background. A man with his kind of wealth would be silly not to but to know what my favourite drink was? It was strange to say the least. “How did you know what I drank?” “Just a guess.” He said it smoothly and I wasn’t fooled in the slightest. Someone didn’t just guess out of the blue that their dates favourite drink was vodka over ice with two lime wedges. No, not date. This wasn’t a date. “Really?” I raised an eyebrow at him. Let him keep his secrets. It didn’t matter if he knew what I liked to drink , it only mattered that I did a good job working for him. “Really.” His trouser leg brushed against my calf and a bolt like electricity swept through my body. For the second time in the space of five minutes our eyes met. My lips fell open. God, I must look really desperate. Panting after a man, my boss no less because his leg brushed mine. “You look beautiful Ami.” “Thank you, but you have said that before.” I could already feel the heat creeping up my skin. “It deserved to be said again.” His smile was easy. “So tell me about yourself?” “What?” I gave a small laugh. “There’s really not much to tell and anyway we are here to discuss you and your needs. Not me.” His eyes darkened and for a second something red flashed in their depths. Which was impossible. Wasn’t it? Must be a trick of the light or something. Surely? “My needs Ami?” His voice was deep, dark and full of promise and a throbbing started between my legs. What was up with this man that he could turn me on with just three innocent words. Maybe I really did need to date more. “Your company needs.” I took a hasty drink of the glass that had just been put on the table , my eyes darting to the server. “Thank you.” I said to his back as his walked away. “I meant your company needs.” I choked on the ice cold vodka in my mouth when I felt his hand on my bare knee. It could have almost been an accident except he didn’t move it. “Did you?” He was staring so intently I could feel myself begin to sink into his bottomless eyes. He would be a passionate lover, I was positive of it. And how long had it been since I had felt the touch of a man? Too long, that was the answer. “Yes of course.” I managed to swallow my drink finally. I couldn’t be having sexy thoughts about this man. He was my boss. “Ok.” His hand slipped from my knee. “The scallops are really good here.” Really? First the drink and now my favourite seafood? What was going on? “I …” I closed my mouth. This guy knew far to much about me. Or thought he did. It was unsettling. “I don’t like scallops.” I finally said. His hand closed back around my knee, but this time he didn’t just place it there. He squeezed and I couldn’t help but suck in a breath as his fingers dug in. “Don’t lie to me Ami.” His nostrils flared. “I’m… I.” “Just tell me the truth , always.” His hand didn’t move. And I could feel the beginning drops of sweat gather between my shoulder blades. “Ok I love them but…” at that moment my phone vibrated in my bag. “I’m Sorry I have to take this it’s my sitter.” Mumbling I turned my body from him, speaking in whispered tones to the girl at the other end of the phone. “Is Ffion ok?” The worry in his voice was unmistakable. And he remembered my daughters name as well. It definitely gave him browny points. “She’s running a fever, I’m sorry. I have to go.” I got to my feet , surprised when he mirrored my action. “I’ll drive you.” “It’s fine honestly , I’ll grab a cab.” “Don’t be silly, to be honest I don’t really fancy French food tonight. So I can make sure you are home and go and grab what I really want to eat.” He motioned a waiter over, passing over a card without even asking to see a bill. Perks of the super rich I guess. “And what’s that?” “Chicken, fried chicken.” He grinned down at me. And my stomach grumbled loudly at the thought of it. “I’ll bring you some back as well.” “You will?” “Of course, our non date isn’t over yet. We are just moving it back to yours.” I laughed. “Your insufferable do you know that?” He just grinned wider. “ I have been told.”
