eightLenny didn’t speak on Aniela’s plane, and no one spoke to him, for which he was grateful. Not even Jadwiga. She had come, of course. He would never be rid of her, not as long as he was in Aniela’s care. She did watch him narrowly, though, with an expectant air that made him nervous. She was always waiting for something. Maybe she thought he was going to snap and try to eat her. Finally fed up, he turned away and closed his eyes, trying to give himself space to think. The ghost was there, an alien presence like a new organ, taking up space, but silent, and not too difficult to ignore. He let himself drift away.
