Chapter 19 - Caught in a web of lies

The days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months... Not to mention that time in the human world flowed faster than the one down in Hell. Valerie didn't even notice that she got used to work for Devland and did what he asked for without questioning. After several weeks she didn't even ask about the investigation only did what she was told to do. And Devland's plan could've been working for forever like this, if Valerie didn't decide to visit her sister. Without Devland's knowing, she traveled to the human world and observed her little sister growing up, falling in love and living the best of her life. When Valerie looked at Eunice, now Piper as a powerful witch who lived a meaningful life, her soul felt at ease. After one of her visits at Piper, Devland called her to his office.

- What do you want? - Valerie asked with tye office door still open. Devland was sitting behind his desk as usual, but the atmosphere of the office changed during the weeks. Thanks to Valerie's services his reputation and wealth grew. Devland became a Demon Lord and Valerie knew he was aiming for more.

- My Dear Valerie, please don't be so hostile. Come in, take a seat. - Valerie rolled her eyes and followed the orders.

- Good girl. - Devland said with a smile.

- Quit the crap. - Devland grinned and gave a picture for Valerie.

- I'd like you to get rid of him. This bug is getting in my way. - Valerie looked at the picture and the corner of her mouth ran up into a cheeky smile.

- You should go outside more, it seems like the smoke of your cigars fogged your mind.

How do you expect me to get rid of him? He is one of Hell's Princes.- Devland shrugged.

- I know you can do it, I believe in your capabilities. - Valerie leaned back in her chair and swung her legs on Devland's desk right on the picture. With her arms crossed in front of her chest she asked.

-What if I say no? - Devland grinned.

- Then I must hurt you until you agree. - Valerie's eyebrow raised.

- How so? I'm dead and not afraid of pain. What could you do to me? - Devland leaned closer.

- You might not afraid of physical pain, but as far as I know, you have a sister that you saved.

- How do you know about that? - Valerie asked and Devland looked into her eyes.

- It is time to wake up little girl... Svetlana told everything about you... Also I had one of my demons following you. So either you do as I say or your little sister will pay for your stubbornness. - Valerie jumped up but didn't break the eye contact not even for a second.

- You cannot lay a finger on her! I already took care of that! - Devland smiled.

- I'm aware of your deal with Beelzebub. I told you Valerie. - Devland stood up and walked to Valerie's side grabbing and sniffing a strain of her long almost black hair.

- I kept an eye on you. So sweety, will you get rid of him for me? - Valerie couldn't hold herself back. She laughed right into Devland's face. The demon's expression changed and he looked surprised when Valerie snapped his hand away.

- Did you think I haven't noticed your dogs around me? Did you really think that my deal with Beelzebub is the only one to protect my sister? You cannot even get close to her! - Devland's grinned again and Valerie felt an urge to scream. She knew that grin.

- She is a witch, her body is human, I might not hurt her physically but humans are fragile creatures. Am I wrong Abigail? - Valerie's blood froze in her veins. She immediately hurried up the the human world and searched for Piper. When she finally found her she was running towards a group of priests who were getting ready to burn a man on stake. Valerie saw the anger and fear in her sister's eyes and Piper's pain became hers. Piper screamed the name of the man and tried to run to him. Valerie knew that guy. He was the one who her sister loved dearly in this life. Her soul mate... Before Piper revealed her powers and got into a life threatening situation Valerie grabbed her from behind stopping her.

- NO! Eugene! - Piper screamed from the top of her lungs. Her body shook in Valerie's hold and she tried to escape to save her love. Eugene... He was the sweetest man ever alive. Although he was a mere human, he cherished and loved Piper more than his own life. That is why when Piper's identity almost revealed, he took all the blame and claimed himself a warlock, only to save Piper from the painful death. Piper started to murmur a spell and rain fell from the sky. The priests noticed her and along with a few holy knights they brought they ran to attack Piper. That was the moment when something snapped in Valerie. With her powers she hit the ground which opened under the priests and knights legs. A few of them fell immediately into the Neverending darkness while a couple of them grabbed the ground and fought for their lives. The remaining priests next to Eugene were hit by lightnings and they died immediately. Valerie released Piper who almost flew to her love, in the meantime Valerie showed her demonic face for the priests and knights. They all begged and prayed for God to save them but Valerie grinned at them with her canines.

- There is no use of that. He doesn't meddle into human affairs. - one of the priests shouted at Valerie.

- BUT YOU ARE A MONSTER! - Valerie grabbed his tunica and pulled him up showing him the sight of the crying Piper while she had to endure the sight of her love losing his life.

- I'm justice. You are monsters. No worries, there's going to be a warm welcome where you are going. - the priest screamed in fear and Valerie threw him into the darkness before she kicked the remaining ones inside as well and closed the door of Hell. She walked to Piper and Eugene. Her sister tried to heal Eugene with her powers but Valerie knew that it was too late. It was her fault for being selfish and not keeping her distance from Piper. It was her fault for trusting a demon, for chasing revenge for a person who betrayed her. Eugene smiled at Piper and hold her hand, with his last breath he promised.

- I'll find you again, it doesn't matter how many times I have to live again. If I can live another life by your side, I'm willing to live dozens of times without you. I love you Piper... - he closed his eyes and Piper cried uncontrollably. She screamed and cursed all the living creatures, she cursed God himself. Before Eugene's soul ascended to Heaven, Valerie focused her remaining divine power, which was now covered by her powers obtained from Hell, she grabbed Eugene.

- Keep your promise! - she said and Eugene nodded smiling at Piper.

- I'll be back sooner than she expects. Thank you! - Valerie kept Eugene's soul in the human world and left the mourning Piper alone with her pain. Valerie went back to Hell, to release a real disaster.
