Chapter Sixteen - Odd

2358 Words
Clara had a gut feeling that something wasn't quite right, “Tristan? Is everything alright out there?” She walked up to the door and leaned against it to hear what was happening outside.   “Tristan?” Clara called once more, anxious because it was silent and it’s impossible for her to hear clearly aside from the eerie static on the other side.   “I’m going out okay? It’s a little bit uncomfortable in here,” she lied. Clara just really wanted to see what’s going on.   After she reached out the doorknob, it made a creaking sound before she confidently pushed it wide open.   Clara went out and furrowed her eyebrows after seeing Raven Leviticus, Julian Luke, and Genesis Craig was there near the door waving at her.   “Where’s Tristan?” she worriedly asked, she just then noticed that the CFO wasn’t there either. Where could they be?   “Oh um, the boss just took him to another room to talk, the CFO seems problematic,” Julian Luke answered while fixing his thick glasses as he gave Clara a reassuring smile.   Clara bit her lower lip before nodding, “Oh by the way, is this the room of Tristan’s girlfriend?” she pointed at the door she went out, so those three just flinched.   “Ex-girlfriend you mean ma’am Clara,” Genesis corrected Clara, so everyone in the room eyed him, “I hope you may not have misunderstood,” he added.   All of them stopped because it's the first time Genesis explained something and it’s exclusively for Clara, “Mr. Zaveri married you, and I believe the boss will only be fond of you right now,” Genesis added before leaving the main office.   Clara’s eyes were widened as she glanced at those two looking at the door that just closed, “I-Is he mad at me? I-I wasn’t misunderstanding though, just asking,” Clara worriedly said, so those two shook their heads.   “No ma’am Clara, I think he just wants you to realize that Mr. Zaveri is married to you, so it’s impossible for him to have a girlfriend,” Julian Luke tried to explain while scratching the back of his head.   “Oh I see, but I wouldn’t mind, after all, I was the other stranger who stepped into Tristan’s life,” what Clara said confused Raven Leviticus and Julian Luke.   They’re about to ask her again when the door went wide open, “You two, clean the mess,” Tristan then appeared while loosening his necktie. Raven and Julian swiftly left without saying a word as Tristan approached his wife, “Are you alright?” he asked, so Clara confusingly nodded at him.   “Of course, why wouldn’t I be?” Clara slightly chuckled at her husband’s reactions, he looked extremely worried about her even though she was told to stay inside of that room.   Clara gasped as her husband pulled her into a tight hug; she's concerned about her husband's reaction at the moment.   “Tristan, I think I should be the one asking you if you’re alright,” Clara gently broke their hugs against each other.   They’re now staring at each other’s eyes, she almost gulped seeing how extremely close they are to each other. She could almost feel his breathing as she felt the intense glares coming from her husband's grey eyes.   Clara could feel the warmth and care from there even if he’s not saying anything, “Your eyes look lovely, Tristan,” Clara warmly smiled before stepping away from him.   Tristan then reflected on hers before pacing back to his desk, “My heart is now swelling because my wife is complimenting me,” he winked after he sat down on the recliner.   Clara just shook her head, “Where’s the CFO? What happened to him?” she curiously asked, so Tristan’s mood changed.   “He’s somewhere where he exactly belongs, I fired him, wife,” Tristan informed before checking some papers again on his desk.   “W-What? Can you even do that?” Clara wondered because she knew the CFO couldn’t be fired unless it’s their reinstatement.   “There’s nothing I couldn’t do wife,” Tristan proudly told his wife. Clara has no other choice but to shake her head and just watch her husband work.   Lunch finally came when the secretary knocked on Tristan’s door, “Sir, are you going to order from the--”   “No, we’ll be back again after lunch,” Tristan immediately cut off his secretary who just politely bowed and left.   Clara witnessed what happened and furrowed her eyebrows at her husband, “You shouldn’t be that rude,” she firmly scolded, but Tristan just shrugged.   “I choose who I want to be nice with, wife,” Tristan raised his head to level his eyes to his wife, he secretly chuckled at how his wife was reacting. He suddenly remembered his deceased parents, he never experienced being scolded by them. He clenched his fist at the thought that his parents were killed, the only reason why he’s at the top was because of them, he wanted to be stronger and powerful enough to avenge them.   “Wife, I want to meet your parents, I haven’t officially asked for your hands to them,” he suddenly blurted out, which surprised Clara.   “W-What? You don’t have to, they’re already dead remember?” she blushed, Tristan’s being a gentleman and it’s making Clara’s heart pound so rapidly against her chest.   No one has ever treated her that way before, and she isn’t a bit interested in having romance in her life back when she was still studying. She has no idea how to deal with any of this.   Everything still feels new to her, especially that she wasn’t in a relationship before they got married, “Let’s just plan on visiting them soon,” he grinned, so Clara just gave him a small smile.   She truly appreciates how thoughtful her husband is, she couldn’t be more thankful that she married him although they’re still strangers to each other.   “And how about we go home for you to make us some lunch?” Tristan stood up and started fixing up his desk.   Tristan invited Clara, and she wondered for a moment, “Don’t you want takeouts? I heard your secretary was about too--”   “I want more of your home cooking wife,” Tristan insisted in his low, stern voice, so Clara has no other choice, but to nod.   Her husband is too adorable to reject, “Alright,” she beamed as they both casually walked on the hallways of their company.   A lot of eyes were looking their way because they’re curious about Clara’s appearance inside this company when they’re well aware that Tristan Jay Zaveri was engaged to a woman called Andrea.   Clara noticed those stares and overheard some employees whispering around them, “So what about Ms. Andrea? Aren’t they engaged?” one of the employees gossiped, so Clara couldn't help but listen.   “We don’t know, but all we know right now is that Mr. Zaveri is married to her,” one of them answered, so Clara bit her lower lip before glancing at her husband who’s just casually walking on the hallways.   Tristan was silent until they arrived at the car and as usual, he opened the door for Clara first to sit on the passenger seat before he decided to walk around. She stared at her husband intently until he sat comfortably on the driver’s seat. “Wife? Is there a problem?” Tristan worriedly asked, “You’ve been staring at me ever since we left the company,” he added.   Clara shrugged before smiling, “I just find you a serious type of person, it’s truly strange that you married a stranger like me,” she stated casually.   She doesn't want to ask too many questions because she thinks that it’s a nuisance, but if her husband doesn’t want to tell her something about it then it’s not her business to care about.   But even if Clara thought that she couldn’t help but be anxious about it, she’s worried that her husband might just be doing this for her despite that he still loves his girlfriend.   After all, he’s kind enough to let her live in his house and have her as his wife until there’s no one after her life.   “But you also married a stranger, wife, aren’t we both the same?” Tristan glanced at his wife. From a distance, he knew his wife was troubled about something.   “Okay, how about we do this,” Tristan then reached out to Clara’s hand and gripped it, “Let’s ask each other twenty questions while you’re making lunch later,”   Clara furrowed her eyebrows, “You mean like the game to get to know each other?” she inquired, so Tristan just nodded at her.   She stared at her husband for a moment before chuckling, “Gosh, I never imagined you knew stuff like that,” she continued giggling, which made Tristan smile.   “There it is, that smile I’ve been wanting to see all day,” Tristan then caressed her cheeks that astounded Clara’s well-being.   “And of course I know that wife, I’m not living under a rock you know?” he winked at his beautiful wife, who just shook her head before smiling.   “Fine, let’s do that, is there something specific you would like to eat?” Clara then asked, so those two continued chatting until they left the company.   ***   “Where is she, Crayford? Even if you signed, you know I could easily take it back!” Klaus Ferdinand threw his glass of wine on the wall, creating an ear-shattering noise as the glass scattered on the floor.   A maid immediately appeared to sweep it off the floor, “You know that you can’t do that, Mr. Klaus, the contract can't be void unless one of us dies,” Serene puffed her cigarette and blew it casually in the air, she was highly pissed off that her step-niece escaped from her grasp. She made sure she wouldn’t escape when she hired those guards. But those useless pieces of shits allowed her niece to escape, what a waste of good money, Serene Crayford thought.   “Then why won’t I kill you right now?” Klaus Ferdinand raised his hand with a gun, he’s currently standing on his desk while Serene was casually leaning on the door in the distance.   Serene was taken aback for a minute, but she didn't show it to that man. One of the reasons why people are killed in her new line of work is because of weakness, so she trained herself to be tough.   They’re both currently inside his office and they’re still having a hard time looking for Clara, “I’m getting a little impatient with that woman, she is supposed to be my wife!” he screamed while clicking the gun.   “You don’t want that to happen, Klaus, without me, you’ll never find your future wife,” Serene hissed before throwing her cigarette away from her.   “My people were killed when they found her staying in a motel, I’m sure you heard about that right?” she raised her eyebrows before pacing towards the chair in front of Klaus Ferdinand’s desk.   “There’s another group here that was involved and you have to find out who it was Klaus, you know that I’m just new to this line of work,” Serene hissed before she swiftly stole the gun from Klaus Ferdinand.   “Get a f*****g grip, or so help me, I’ll never look for that woman for you,” she threatened, so Klaus just glared at her.   Klaus Ferdinand collapsed in his chair before grabbing his tobacco, “The way your people were killed including mine was done very swiftly and clean, there’s only one group that does that,” he informed and blew some smoke out.   “You mean that huge group called ‘The Bible’? Aren’t they part of the highest mafia groups across the entire world? How come you’ve messed up with those people?” Serene wanted to hide the fact that she was nervous, she knows that those groups are a threat and aren't to be taken lightly.   “I’m not sure, but I’m pretty sure they're involved with this mess,” Klaus hissed before puffing his tobacco.   A knock from the door interrupted them as the creaking of the door was the only thing that they could hear inside of that room.   “Boss, you have a message from God,” one of Klaus Ferdinand's underlings informed, so they both furrowed their eyebrows. The underling just coughed before he decided to place the tray on his desk that contained an envelope that had a cross mark. “s**t!” He immediately grabbed that letter and opened it. From the sign, he already knew that he was dealing with something huge and dangerous.   “Mess with me or my wife, Clara Crest Zaveri, you’ll be saying goodbye to your corporation and your life,” - God   “Crayford!” Klaus slammed his fists on his table, his jaw tightening, “I thought you said that woman isn’t married?!” He furiously glared at Serene who had her eyebrows furrowed as she set her eyes on that letter.   Her eyes widened, “But she isn’t married yet, she was an orphan and a single woman, that’s what I told you right?” She senses that there was something wrong.   Klaus also did a background check on his almost future wife and he knew Serene wasn’t lying when she said it was single and an orphan. So it’s odd to receive a message like this, he thought.   “Give me time and let’s see if this God is saying the truth,” Serene clenched her fists while crumpling that piece of paper.   “When I see that filthy woman again, it’s her funeral,” she muttered inside of her head.   To be continued…
