Sam (POV)
I was going out of my mind. We had been waiting for an hour now for the smoke to clear out. It was finally getting to a point we could see in front of us. I have searched this house up and down and could not find her. I searched every room on the top two floors. It took me forever to get through them. Now that the smoke was getting lighter, things would move a lot faster.
I tried to feel Ember, but I couldn't feel anything. I was hoping that would be good news. Maybe the smoke had made her pass out somewhere. I knew she was still alive. She was not scared or anxious, so that was good. I did feel a serge of fear go through her, but that was right after we lost her on the steps. The fear could have been from losing us. I have not felt anything since.
