Chapter Thirteen: Moye Solntse

1534 Words
Alexei's POV I made one of my servants go and wake up Genevieve. So while I waited I observed one of the castles many doctors look over Avery and her injured wrist. I told her about the fever and said she didn't want it treated, she said she would talk to her about it. I don't feel any different, I actually feel wonderful since I've drank her blood. I hope she wasn't allergic to my kind. Witches aren't immune to us or wolves, there have been reports that some witches develop allergic reactions to wolves or vampires. Sometimes both. I just hoped that wasn't the case here. "My King," The woman came up to me lowering both her glasses and head. I grunted in response. The older woman hummed, understanding my silent demeanor. "Miss Raine-" "I asked you to stop calling me that." Avery spat, glaring at the back of the doctor's head. The lady rolled her eyes and sighed heavily. "As I was saying, Miss Avery's wrist wasn't broken, but it is fractured. I've given her some pain killers and an antibiotic to take with her." Instead of giving Avery the medicine she placed them in my hand. "The instructions on the bottles will tell you how much and how often she should get them." "But I don't want the pills. I'm a witch, I can draw on nature to help heal me." "No!" I said stearnly. "You've been stripped. If you try to draw on earth's natural elements, you're just asking to tap into black magic." "Only the most powerful and smartest witches go dark. And even then it's rare." I shook my head. "To help a witch feel better, who they call on?" I asked with a sigh. "Hecate" Avery looked at me, she was confused as to what I was trying to say. "And why is that?" Avery smirked and rolled her eyes. "Have you heard of those ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses?" I nodded. "Well let's say they aren't all false." She got up from the cot she was seated on. "Hecate's scope of divine duties was extensive in Ancient Greek religion." Avery lifted up her left hand and counted with her fingers as she named off a list. "Hecate, was most notably the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, light, ghosts, necromancy, and the moon. Further, she was the goddess and protector of the oikos, and entranceways." she chuckled, "But as I said, partially correct." I crossed my arms. "What's untrue about your God?" "Hecate, much like Erebus and Selene aren't from Greece. They are Deities. Each is a deity of their own, one of the Moon, one of the Shadows and one of earth's Elements. It's similar to the concept of human beliefs ofbJesus Christ. For them he is the reason they exist." I nodded. "For our three Gods, Hecate, is more powerful because she draws off her sibling deity, but in return they draw from her for more power too. Which is why she is the only one of the three who would never turn dark. If she goes dark then everyone else gets lost." I'm sure the unamused look on my face made her upset with my lack of thinking. "I've seen my fair share of evil from your people." "Trust me, if you have ever met someone that horrible, then you and I wouldn't have ever met. Because my coven would have been burned to ash long before I was born. Maybe even your clan of nightwalkers would've burned before you had to suffer the loss of your family." Avery's voice got softer as she mentioned my deceased wife and unborn child that she was carrying at the time of her death. Avery looked to the side, sympathy written on her face. This would be the first time that I had seen an emotion for me that wasn't anger on her face. "As I said, we all would know if Hecate ever allows one of her children to turn to the darkness. I just pray I'm long dead if it ever does happen." The doctor gave me a perplexed look, then shook her head and gave me some papers and pointed at the bottom of the sheet of paper she handed me. "Have Geni look at her if she's still warm. Because if you're fine, then this is a magical illness, it's most likely a side effect of her powers being stripped." "Thank you, Remy." she bowed her head with a smile. I held my hand out and helped Avery stand as she put her coat back on. "Come on little lady, it's way past your bed time." "You aren't my dad, so stop acting like you care." I heard her mumble. I sighed deeply, earning a look from Avery. She knew I hated it when she assumed things. "I may not show it often, but I do." I whispered into her ear, so only she heard it. She rolled her eyes not wanting to believe it. I gripped her arm and escorted her back up to my room. "I was hoping to go back to my room?" "Nope, my bed or you sleep on the floor." Avery snatched her arm from me when I walked us into my quarters with her. "I'll take the floor." I heard her grumble. Internally I was grateful that she didn't want to sleep in the same bed as me, but on the outside I had a point to prove. "Look here krasivyy, I'm really tired. Let's get in bed and go to sleep." I tried to sound as nice as I could without giving her the creeps again. Her head movement was slow as she shook her head at me. "Don't do that" Avery whispered. I went to open my mouth to ask what she meant, but she spoke again. She sniffed and looked up at me, pain and sadness in her grey eyes. "If you want to call me something, call me anything but beautiful. Because that nickname specifically was and will always be reserved for only one man." "Who ar-" I stopped and mentally slapped myself. "You mean Daniel. The one who called us?" Avery looked away then nodded her head. I wanted to apologize, but felt it wouldn't help how I just made her feel by hearing that word on my lips. I sighed and went over to my bed and sat down, I grabbed two pillows from the bed and offered them to her. "Sleep on the couch, I'll have someone bring a blanket in for you." She wordlessly took the two pillows and turned towards the couch and went over to it. I rolled my eyes at the small wrap covering her wrist. Remy wanted to put a cast on it, but Avery and I were tired and said she'd do it in the morning. I was all too happy to agree. I watched as Avery placed a pillow down on one end of the couch and then laid down facing away from the room. The second pillow - which I thought reminded me of my late wife - went between her legs, and she kept her coat on. I wasn't ever cold, us vampires didn't feel the brisk chills of the world because we were technically dead. We didn't breathe but our bodies made the effort to make it seem as though we were. Most, not all, but most vampires cannot go out in the sunlight. I can because I'm of a pure bred vampire lineage. Vampires can have children, but it's extremely rare, my wife herself becoming pregnant was a miracle all on its own, because even before she was turned she couldn't get pregnant. "Goodnight Avery." I murmured softly, so only I could hear it. I leaned against the headboard and waited until someone came by my bedroom and stopped off the blanket I requested. I got back up from the bed and picked up the soft and warm material of the blanket and went over to where Avery was. I unfolded it and draped it over her chilled form. She was asleep shortly after her head hit the pillow, exhaustion taking over her without her realizing. Oh how my little piece of sunlight makes me hate and admire her all in one breath. "Moye solntse I will try to do right by you, but I need you to work with me here." I murmured and reached down and gently ran a fingertip down Avery's hot cheek. I meant what I said too, and as much as I don't like Marc calling me out on it. He was right as well. I did make Avery officially my pet so others couldn't have the pleasure of tasting her sweet and intoxicating blood. I'd never fed on a witch before, but when I drank from her earlier this evening I had to force myself to stop. Even looking down at her now, her heart I could hear was racing which made her blood flow echo in my ears as her heart pumped furiously in her chest. I had to fight off from leaning down and sinking my fangs into her neck, again.
