Blair sat up when the doors opened, to her relief she saw Wolfe bring in Jeremy.
"You found him?" She asked making Jeremy's eyes grow.
"You can talk!?"
"No, you can understand me" Blair said.
"Blair, it's true, I was the one who bit him, and, well..." Wolfe looked at his friend.
"Let's just say I'm not hating you Wolfe, but I'd rather not be this thing if you know what I mean?" Jeremy said and looked at Blair "Are you really a Cherokee shaman?"
Blair tipped her head "No, not exactly, but, I can't help you like I helped Wolfe, uh..."
"So you really did give him control over the wolf?"
"It's yet to be tested, but as far as my knowledge goes, yes is the answer"
"Why can't you help me?" Jeremy sounded angry.
"It's, because he bit you, it's hard to explain, but we classify you as a human wolf now, not a wolf that came from the astral plain"
"f**k!" Jeremy yelled kicking straw up "This is f****d up! Now I'm stuck like this! I can't even kill myself!"
"You, tried to kill yourself?" Blair asked astounded.
"Yes! I placed a pistol in mouth and blew my brains out! But I woke up again after the next full moon"
Blair's ears hung.
'Your bite will kill him Blair' Maikah said.
"Do, you? Or rather, would you choose death above this life?" Blair asked slowly.
"Yes, I, I make sure I go deep into the forest! But, I cannot say I kept myself out of harms way! I don't know who I kill!"
"Then, I will end you tonight" Blair said making him look up.
"What?"
"If I bite you, you won't survive"
He glared at her, then at Wolfe "Ok then, sounds fair, I mean, you can't help me any other way right?"
"I'm sorry"
"Then... I will be at the creek before the moon rises..." He walked to the doors but stopped.
"f**k this, at least one last time I want to pester little Wolfy!" He said laughing and turned to them "He said you're this very attractive young Indian girl, I think Wolfy likes you" Jeremy said and backed out of the shed.
"He! He's just! I mean!" Wolfe never expected him to do that, he looked at Blair who sat watching him wide eyed.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to pry with my eyes! I didn't mean to disrespect you"
She laughed "Relax Wolfe, no need to fall over and bump your head"
He sighed hanging his head "Sorry"
"I'm only fifteen you know" She said making him look up at her "I, still have a lot to learn about the world, and about boys, so, I have looked at you as well, but I'm not saying I'd go further than that for the moment"
He slapped his face "Oh geez I feel so embarrassed!"
Blair only giggled.
"I'll, come for you later this evening ok?" He said heading to the door.
"Yes, I'll see you then" Blair said still laughing inwardly, he was, sweet? Is that the word? Or is it...? Blair couldn't find a word for it, but she liked how he stumbled just now.
'He does seem to like you, but it's way too early to say for sure, I know boys, or young men do stumble like that in front of pretty girls they admire, so it is indeed a sign that he finds you appealing' Maikah said.
"I'm glad, I also find him appealing, but..." She lied down and sagged her ears "I, have to kill his best friend tonight"
'It is unfortunate'
The day dragged on, Blair heard Boone say something about heading off tomorrow to other towns with her, the money he made was enough for him to buy enough supplies for travel, so nothing really stopped him.
Blair scanned with her ears, there was less movement now, the sun was still up, but she couldn't care less. She stood up and with one hard ram she busted the door off by the hinges, the locks were strong enough and remained, but that didn't matter.
She slipped out the half broken door to the back of the shed, making trails in the hay to indicate she went there to a back door, then she shifted into her human form and left that way.
Blair came around the shed to the main street, not many people moved about, she calmly walked down the street, Jeremy's scent still somewhat there, it allowed her to follow it all the way into the woods, then finally to the creek he spoke of, where she found him.
"Jeremy?" She said and he looked up.
"You?" He said standing up.
"Yes, I got tired of that cage, so I broke out"
Jeremy threw his head back and laughed "This is sweet, I wish I could be there to see that buffoon Boone's face once he realises you're gone"
Blair smiled "The reason I remained there was to find you"
He stopped laughing "To find me?"
"Wolfe could hear me speak in my wolf form, we figured we'd track you down quicker that way"
He hung his head "I've already been hunted hey?"
"I'm sorry"
He smiled "Don't be, you can rid me of this nightmare, this is all I need"
Blair felt her eyes tear up "I, I don't know what to say, I came her expecting to fight a vicious monster, now I find out I have to kill a kind man, kill someone's best friend"
"Hey! Stop breaking yourself up about it Blair, it is Blair right?"
She nodded.
"If I had one last wish, take care of Wolfy would ja? He's still a kid"
"But? Aren't you one two?"
"I'm friggin eighteen, my parents died in some civil war, I made way for myself, his parents just left him, Boone adopted him so he could work for him, that f*****g pig"
"He's adopted?"
"Yes, and if you can get him away from Boone, please do, that guy is nothing but scum"
Blair nodded "I will grant your wish, I will take Wolfe away from that man"
Jeremy smiled then looked around, the sun has almost set, he sighed "Uh, if this isn't too much to ask, can you? Kill me now?"
Blair's heart cramped "What!? Why?"
"I'd like to die a human"
The sorrow she felt that day her tribe stabbed her had her again, but different.
"I don't think I can! I was told to kill monsters! I don't kill humans"
"Please, I don't want to die a mindless beast, do it before Wolfe gets here!"
She looked back over her shoulder, they were still alone "Are you sure?" she asked looking back.
"Yes"
Blair hesitated.
'Grant him his wish Blair, it's not often you'll find monsters begging for death, release him' Maikah said.
Blair closed her eyes, the cloud of smoke rose around her and grew, then reshaped into her great wolf form, she opened her eyes to see Jeremy on his hindquarters looking up shocked.
"Ho! Holy s**t!"
"I, admire your bravery, to rather face death than to hurt others, I will always remember you Jeremy, your bravery was a lesson I will take with me"
He swallowed and stood up "Thank you"
"Close your eyes, I will make it painless"
He smiled and closed his eyes.
Blair opened her jaws, her fangs glowed purple, a haze of smoke came from them, she didn't notice this above her sorrow.
"Farewell, Jeremy" She inwardly said and bit down around his neck with a silence shattering snap.
