10 October, 1939 - Poland As sunlight filtered through the trees, the ragged group shrank into the shadows of the forest. “Split up,” Jacob whispered, motioning Irma and the children away. Sofia followed them, holding Nicky by the hand. “Run as fast as you can,” she told the little boy, her heart throbbing in terror. Eyes wide, Nicky seemed to grasp the magnitude of the situation as they scrambled through the thicket, their clothes and hair snagging on overgrown bushes.
