"Do you have any idea what's happening in the world? " Cage asked with a shudder.
"What's bothering you this time Cage?" Lucas asked half-heartedly. Lucas was extremely cranky today and he was clearly not interested in Cage's absurdity.
"The human world is turning more violent than the supernatural." Cage groaned while rubbing his hands on his face.
"What happened?" This time Lucas frowned at Cage, his tone held curiosity. They were Dragons and it only took little effort to spike their curiosity.
Dragons were known to be the most malignant, cunning, and territorial beings. There were even more territorial than the Lycans. One would be a fool to mess with a begin like them.
"I was doing background research on the town we are heading to. Never thought I could find such chaos there." Cage mumbled, he had a distant look on his face as if he was trying to solve a puzzle.
"Enough with the riddles, come to the point." Lucas snapped clearly getting impatient.
"Stop snapping at me! I was coming to the point if you hadn't interrupted." Cage muttered broodingly.
For a well-built Dragon warrior, Cage sometimes acted like a child which was the main reason everyone in the Dragon Realm avoided working with him. But they can't just leave him behind because Cage was the finest warrior when it came to digging the dirty mysteries and tracking an enemy.
"Okay, keep it to yourself." Lucas shot Cage a sharp look which got Cage to come to the point.
"Although the small town appeared to be a peaceful place from outside that didn't mean that it's as peaceful as it appeared to be. Ten years ago three men were attacked in their own hometown. Two of them were brutally killed. One was hung to a tree by his intestine. The second was butchered with a knife, his flesh into the size of cubes, and the third one is alive but his fingers, eyes, and tongue are missing. Their families weren't spared by the murderer, not even the children. They were all murdered in cold blood except for one. He's the sole alive witness who knew what had happened to his and his friend's families but he's a living corpse."
"You should stop mingling with humans and focus on your work Cage. If you had lived outside the Dragon Realm for long like me then you should have known that humans are crueler than monsters of myth." Liam told the Dragon warrior nonchalantly.
Liam had been living in the human world as a billionaire gold merchant. And he had been talking from experience. Liam had seen a side of humans that can put even the cruelty of immortals to shame.
"That's what I was doing. Three of them were the previous owners of the goldmines where rumors have it that someone had found the Dragon Gold." Cage mumbled defensively.
"You should search for the current owner, not the previous ones. They are dead and not our problem." Liam rasped before sipping on his dragon wine.
Cage and Lucas were Dragon warriors and they were accompanying Liam to claim the Dragon Gold that humans had found from some goldmines.
Dragons were the worshipers of gold~
Dragon Gold also known as Red Gold was a sacred ornament for the Dragons and according to the ancient laws, it only belonged to the Dragons.
Liam was from the royal bloodline of Dragons and next to the line to the throne. If something happened to his cousins then Liam would be the King of Dragons but Liam had no interest in the throne. He was happy living in the human world as a billionaire gold merchant.
Liam's current status was of a Dragon Lord and he was in charge of protecting the Dragon Gold and hunting anyone who possessed the Dragon Gold outside the Dragon Realm.
Currently, the Kings of Dragons, Marek Draco who was also Liam's cousin had assigned him to investigate the rumors of someone from a small human town finding Red Gold from some old goldmines.
Liam himself was sufficient for completing the job but his cousin had assigned two dragon warriors from the Dragon Realm to help him in this task.
Liam hadn't returned to the Dragon Realm in ages. Although he belonged to the Kingdom of Dragons, he had left his kingdom 10 years ago because the Dragon Realm had stopped feeling like home at that time.
His Dragon had yearned for something or someone that was beyond the boundaries of his home~
It was like someone was calling to his soul~
Liam was a Royal Dragon but he preferred solitude, he wasn't used to working with others and his fellow Dragons whom his cousin aka King had sent for his help had started to get on his nerves.
"The current owner had refused to talk or negotiate with anyone so I started digging on the ownership of the goldmines and you will be surprised to know that what I have found." Cage responded. This time Cage's words got Liam's interest. With the motion of his hand, Liam instructed Cage to go on.
"The current owner is a werewolf and she has no relation with the previous owners. It is strange that the previous owners signed all their wealth to her before they were brutally killed." Cage explained.
"A she-wolf living with humans? Now that's an unusual thing to hear." Liam remarked.
"Do you think she has a hand in murdering the previous owners?" Lucas questioned but before Cage could answer him, Liam chimed in. "It's not a woman's work Cage said that not even the children were spared. The whole family was mercilessly killed. No matter how cruel a woman is, she will never harm innocent children. The mother instinct in her won't let her do that."
"My Lord is right. If the she-wolf would have murdered the families then the Lycan council would have killed her." Cage said with a thoughtful look on his face.
"You never know what a woman is capable of when provoked." Lucas whispered under his breath almost to himself.
"Next week there is going to be a grand party in the town. It's thrown by the she-wolf every year. If we get into the party then we might be able to pursue the woman to hand over the Dragon Gold that didn't belong to her." Cage announced ignoring Lucas's assumptions.
Liam didn't know why but the she-wolf had caught his attention. What was she doing outside her pack?
She was living in the human world, why would the Lycan council allow her to mingle with humans?
Lycans were the true-born children of the moon and werewolves were considered as abominations by them and they were not allowed to mingle with humans.
The lycans were the Moon's child while werewolves were the Moon's curse. Werewolves and Lycans hardly interact with each other but when a wolf pack interacted with humans in a way that had the risk of revealing their kind to humans, lycans were the one who eliminated the threat to their kind.
The sole reason why werewolves came into being was that lycans were the strongest race. Once there was a lycan warrior who thought that revealing their kind to humans and ruling over them was their birthright as a stronger race. So he, defying all the rules of Nature and Moon he revealed himself to humans and killed a large number of them.
He was Moon's child so the Moon didn't kill him but that didn't mean that the Moon forgave him because the Moon never forgave, it punished.
The Lycan Warrior was cursed by the Goddess. A curse of turning into a wolf. It was said that the Warrior acted on his animal instinct and tried to rule the weak race so he was bound with an actual animal for eternity by the Moon Goddess.
And werewolves were his offsprings, abominations.
From that day any werewolf who will be found mingling with humans will face the consequences and the wrath of the lycan council.
So the fact that the she-wolf was living with humans was bothering Liam.
Why was the Lycan council letting her?
Liam's dragon stirred inside his soul as if he was curious about this mystery too.
The mystery that this little she-wolf was~
