"It's been a while since we've seen Caleb. How is he?"
I could practically sense the hesitance in Tara's voice when she asked this to Sia. We girls had settled in my room while the boys had driven to Octave Motel to check if the rooms were ready. When Daisy excused herself to use the loo, Tara asked the question to Sia, careful to not speak his name too loudly.
I did remember how Sia froze in the yard an hour ago when she'd accidentally spoken his name as well, and how Daisy had pretended she hadn't heard it at all. I had an idea or two about who he was and why were they being too reluctant to mention his name around Daisy, but I didn't want to be too preposterous to assume. I had learnt that things were often much different than they seem around here.
