Chapter 10 Steve Armani arrived the Roberts mansion with their supposed first daughter- Madison hand in hand, stretching their lips into a plastic smile as they came face to face with the host. "Good Evening," Steve bowed slightly while greeting Madison's adoptive parents. They were all cheerful but he could sense an air of arrogance around them. And without being told, he knew that their smiles were plastic as well. "Bless you, Son" Mr Robert said, gently nudging his wife who had just stared at Madison and Steve, like nine tailed foxes. "Come on, in. Food is ready and the dining is set. We'll be having more of Italian meals, tonight." Mrs Robert said, turning slightly and gesturing towards one of the rooms behind her. "Alright." Steve said, intensifying his hold on Madison as he flashed her a smile. "Let's go babe." Madison nodded, smiling as well as though they were actually lovers. Walking into the large dining room, the long ten seater tempered glass table had on it, all sort of dishes. And though this was nothing compared to what Steve ate on a norm, he sighed dreamily, acting like this was his first time of sighting such goodness. "I can't wait to taste this all." He declared, marching forward while dragging an expressionless Madison towards the table. "Of course, you will." Mrs Robert feigned a smile even though disgust was etched all over her face. She threw her husband who simply chuckled, a side look. And Steve though pretending to have all his senses on the diverse foods before him, was observant. "Let me ring the maids to dish out the meal. Felicia and her boyfriend are still on their way." Mrs Robert said, pressing a golden bell situated at the edge of the table and within seconds two maids walked into the dining room in their duty wear. Steve remembered Felicia as the arrogant younger sister of Madison who had tried finding him a job of a security guard. "Serve." Was the brief order of the woman of the house and the maids, each taking a side of the table, went about their duties of serving. "Ah, no." Steve had stopped the maid who had wanted to dish out some servings of Primi Piatta that he had his eyes upon. "I can help myself with some servings ." "You know, " He added. "I'm not used to all this fine treatment. " Mrs Robert could no longer hold back her disgust. "Which is why you should let the maid do the serving. Get used to finesse!" Steve darted from the pale skinned before him to her husband, then to Madison who still had the same expressionless look since they first arrived as she picked on her food. "You're not angry, Mother. Are you?" He darted his eyes back to Mrs Robert, c*****g her a brow. "I'm absolutely not." The latter cleared her throat, reaching for the half filled glass of water beside her. Proceeding to dish out a not so large amount of food on his plate, he took several spoons and paused, exclaiming. "We should take some home, don't you think so?" He nudged Madison who was sitting beside him. "Huh?" She turned to him. Just then, Felicia walked into the dining room with Amos beside her. She swung her hips to and fro, upon every stride. And she smiled, her painted lips drew into a thin straight line. "Hey," She went towards where her parents sat, planting a light kiss on each of their cheeks. And though Madison didn't look up from her plate for once since Felicia and Amos' presence in the room, Steve noticed how happy Mrs Robert was. She seemed to have a liking for Felicia, he noticed. Pulling the chair beside her mom, Felicia sat down, adjusting her short silk gown in a more comfortable way as she placed her peach clutch on the table. Amos on the other hand sat at the other side of the table, opposite Felicia but at the left hand of Steve, whom he nodded at. "Babe, pass me the salt." Felicia said after taking a few spoons of the minestrone soup she had gone for, smiling at Amos and stealing few glances at Madison. She thought she was going to provoke her 'sister'. But little did she know that though Madison married a man she loved not, she was in no way jealous of the pathetic relationship she and her ex were into. "The soup is bland?" Mrs Robert said, chuckling as she took some meat from her plate and added to her Felicia's. "Not really, mom. I just feel like taking something salty tonight. " She smiled, looking seductively at Amos before going back to her food. "You're smiling a lot, tonight." Mr Robert spoke up for the first time, since they had begun eating. "And she shouldn't?" His wife turned to him, casting him a glare as she saw that he seemed not so happy. "I didn't say so, " He shrugged. "Well," Felicia began. "I've been smiling alot because my man takes good care of me. " Amos nearly choked on his food. "I can imagine, " Mrs Robert held unto Felicia's left hand and worked her fingers gently against the soft skin of her daughter. "But when will he propose?" Felicia seemed uncomfortable as she stared briefly at Amos who kept stuffing risotto into his mouth. Faster and fuller than before. "Mom," She freed her hand from the grip of her mom. "Why don't we talk about the new couple? You know Madison..." Chuckling darkly, the latter kept picking on her food, stabbing each sliced, roast beef with a fork, her eyes rolling like a fan. "That reminds me, Amos. You should help Steve find a suitable job in your company as idling is no good for him, now he's married. " "I-" Amos was cut off by Felicia who was quick to intervene. "I actually offered to help him get a job as a security guard in Amos' company but he turned down the offer, thoughtlessly." "Is that true?" Mrs Robert turned to Steve who watched and was irritated at the sort of family, Madison came from. "Absolutely, " He said, putting down his cutlery. "I only love resting and going out for a stroll. Save only for the moments I play some games and..." "And what?" Mr Robert spoke up. He seemed provoked at Steve's response and that made the latter want to smile so badly. "And I only love being a full time husband." He deadpanned, mentally laughing at the mortified expression his in-laws had on their faces. "That's... that's madness!" Mrs Robert exclaimed, shocked that a handsome man that looked so promising, like him had uttered such original nonsense . "That's not madness but my stress to deal with." Madison finally spoke up. "Undoubtedly, no one here should have such audacity to talk to my husband in such condescending, impolite manner. " She had surprised Steve. He acted like a fool all along to provoke and bring out the real Madison. Not just to madden her but get her to divorce him soon after. B-But this was greatly perplexing to him. "I forbid you to speak to mother in that manner." Felicia retorted, glaring at Madison. "Same goes to you crazy harlot. Focus on your unproductive, pathetic and suffocating relationship. And until you get into the world of the married, keep your filth filled mouth shut and focus on making your man take you to the alter. " "How dare you scorn me, you wench?! Do you think being married to an idler is an achievement?" Felicia raged. "You heard my man right. He wants to be a full time h-u-s-b-a-n-d. Period!" Madison said, rolling her eyes. It was of course a thing of concern when Steve had said that he would be a full time husband but he wouldn't let her adoptive family disgrace him nor give Amos the impression that she had settled for less. "Really? Mom you heard what she said, right?" Felicia said, standing up and grabbing her clutch from the table as she snapped a finger at Madison. And like a lost puppy, Amos left his seat too, walking after Felicia who had exited the dining room. "You never do anything good!" Mrs Robert yelled, turning to Madison who laughed maniacally. They had used her, right? Now she had married who they had asked her to, in place of their silly daughter and had gotten a few things from it, too. So therefore, she would never stoop so low to them again. She was changed. She was Madison Armani, now. Chuckling, she stood up and signalled Steve who came after her after bidding his in laws farewell. Walking into the hallway, Steve had sighed trying to talk to Madison but a shrill cry filled the air and they both froze, wanting to know where such sound emanated from. "It's all your fault, Amos. You let that b***h talk down at me!" They had the voice of Felicia from the farther part of the hallway. "Calm down, just stop yelling." Amos' voice was an octave lower. "Not until you f*****g engage me! What's even wrong with you? I thought you're f*****g over that freaking b***h. What's stopping you from engaging me?! What?!!" "I-I'll propose... to you." "Darn you! You aren't over her and... and why does it seem like I'm begging you to do this? Why did you f**k me when I seduced you, if truly you like that wench? Huh?" Felicia cried. Footsteps filled the air and suddenly, it became faint until the sound of heels clicking on the marbled ground was no more. Steve had opened his mouth slightly as perplexity had taken over. W-What did he just hear? "Amos is your ex?" He turned slowly to Madison, still shocked at this revelation. "Yeah. But he cheated on me." Madison said, regretting why they had left the dining room. "Really?" She nodded. "What else are you hiding from me, Madison cause I'm really, really seeing from a different angle, now." Steve asked, his eyes piercing her sapphire ones. And Madison's heart skipped. For when last he called her by her name, it was a no serious situation. Like this.
