28. She’s ours

LUKE POV NEXT DAY It was hard to look my cousin in the eyes after what happened to Maeve. To my little nephew or niece. During the de-briefing which he only attended so he could take a chunk out of our asses, he informed all of us that Maeve would only be assisting the council with research and planning, NO MISSIONS for the foreseeable future. When High Elder Reginald informed him they would need to speak with Maeve first, I was glad the de-briefing was via video call. The High Elder forgot one important thing. Maeve is Robbie’s mate and that supersedes any agreements she and her coven have with them. When Robbie’s murderous face grew bigger on the screen, I knew he was going to make the High Elder wish he’d never opened his mouth. Growling four simple words “My pupped mate. Mine.”, He stared at the screen. Waiting for someone to oppose him. When no one did, he nodded and hung up. His point had been loud and clear. My conversation with him hadn’t been as hostile, but I’d had the common sense to ask him to apologize to Maeve for me. There was no way that beast was going to let any of the wolves who almost got her killed anywhere near her. Not even me. While he hadn’t forgiven me, he’d given me an opportunity to make amends by finding his prey. It seems like the fates want me to go to the East because last night, my twin went through a roller coaster of emotions that I couldn’t ignore. That’s why I left for Mt. Washington early this morning. Wolves like feeling the soil beneath their paws as they run for miles. Normally, my team and I would run there, but since the small team I’m taking with me has one of the wolves from the South I’m prospecting for the South’s werearmy, I decided to welcome him to the team properly. Cyrus, Axel, Mateo, Kane, and I were being flown there by Uncle Rob, on a chopper. “We don’t have f*****g wings for a reason.” Kane grumbled, trying to hide his nerves. “Be ready for anything, Warrior.” I slapped his back and double-checked my parachute. “He’s right you now.” Soran echoed Kane’s sentiment. Do they actually think I enjoy this? It scares the s**t out of me, and it takes days for my balls to crawl out of my ass. For my twin, I'd do it without a parachute. “You agreed we should get to our twin ASAP, didn’t you?” We ran fast but not as fast as the chopper. It was imperative I find out what or who is bothering my twin and eliminate them, so we could focus on the mission. She was always supposed to see this through with me, but we’d expected to meet up on the battlefield. The assholes brought the battlefield to her, making it much easier for her to take part in the strategizing. Individually, we’re good. Together we’re unmatched. That's when she's not hiding things from me. "How bad do you think it is?” I asked Soran and made sure the others were ready. We’re minutes away. He hummed. “For our twin to shut us out. Pretty bad.” He was right. That’s why I’d been a little too happy when I got the news that the enemy was in the east. I would have expected them to hide in a makeshift camp, deep in the forest, like they had been. Yet they hadn't. Instead, they were in Boston. “That’s your target!” Uncle Rob announced through our headphones. We looked in the direction he was pointing. There was green everywhere, as expected. He was pointing at a small patch in the distance that wasn’t as dense. We weren’t looking for the perfect spot to land. We were looking for the closest, and safest, spot to Leia’s location that we could find. If Uncle Rob said that was it, it was good enough for me. HERC POV The last thing I wanted to do today is stare at this asshole's stupid face. “I’ve removed all the wolves on your hit list from their positions. They are being reassigned as we speak.” He might as well have ended with Alpha and a bow. He was so far up her ass.. “Good. You have until tomorrow to fill the spots.” My naughty Sarg replied with little emotion. Yes, I was studying her. I was too f*****g pissed to speak with her last night. Besides, I could feel her uncertainty, and it meant she needed time. That didn’t mean I was going to leave the road open for the brown noser. He was eager for her attention, for some kind of reaction. Watching her as closely as I was. She… she was hard to read. He nodded like an obedient pup but she barely spared him a glance. “I’ll leave you to it.” I felt Leia’s eyes glance in my direction before she turned, and opened the door. I went to follow but went still when I noticed her body perk up. From behind I could only imagine the excitement on her face because she was vibrating. The Alpha noticed the change in her demeanor too. “Mi cuata.” When the male wolf's voice rang in our ears, we both were instantly on edge. Then his scent hit me, and his voice was now familiar. “Orale!” She cheered and ran out the door. Not sure why I imagined her throwing herself into his arms, in a little sister-like fashion. That wasn’t what she did at all. “OOOFFF!” She had knocked the wind out of him just as he came to view with an elbow to the gut. He groaned, she grinned. “Why did I expect you to miss me enough to hug me like a normal sibling?” Pulling her in, he placed her in a headlock and walked further into the room. “Luke! You ass!” She punched him in the gut, struggling to walk next to him, but not hard enough to faze him. Alpha Paul looked more confused than he usually is. He had caught on that Senior Master Sargeant Luke wasn’t competition. What he didn't know is, he was worse. “Let go!” She growled and bit his side. “s**t Leia!” He hissed and let go. Frowning, he used the hand he wasn't using to rub his side and closed the door. Wild hair flew about as Leia tossed it back. Her thick mane curtained her round gorgeous face. Damn. She looked wild and fuc… “Elite Warrior Hercules.” I grimaced at the full use of my name and bowed in his direction. “Senior Master Sargeant Luke.” I returned his greeting. I felt him walk in my direction, his hand landing on my shoulder. He opened his mouth to say something but frowned, sniffing the air. Leia noticed his odd behavior and sniffed the air as well. Alpha Paul was standing awkwardly, still unacknowledged. As he should be. Luke shook his head, turned to Leia. They were doing their weird twin thing when Alpha Paul coughed, desperately seeking attention. I rolled my eyes and turned to see him already glaring at me. “This is the Alpha of Dark Mist, Alpha Paul.” Leia said and tilted her head in his direction, still not looking at him. That was a good sign. My Angel’s twin felt the tension between… well, the three of us and stared between us before extending his hand toward the Alpha. He smiled like a child getting attention from his daddy and reached out to take his hand. “Welcome to Dark Mist.” The Alpha smiled broadly. Leia opened her perfect and edible lips to speak but stopped and turned to the closed door. Someone was coming. There was an instant frown on her face, but it was quickly replaced by confusion when her twin rushed to the door, throwing it open. Former Alpha Daniel stood in front of the door, until he was thrown to the side by my new hero Luke. “See. Even he knows that prick is useless.” Aries chuckled. Leia covered her mouth, stifling her laughter. I enjoyed watching her smile until her eyes went wide. I turned to see what had her moon eyed and saw Senior Master Sargeant Luke with Dark Mist future Luna pressed up against his chest. His face was buried in her neck, his arm around her waist. The usually shy shewolf didn’t seem to mind. In fact, she looked right at home. Realization dawned on me, and I turned to the Alpha, who looked furious. “That’s my chosen mate!” he raised his voice but didn't growl, still earning a death glare from the twins. As soon as the words left his lips, his eyes darted to Leia. He looked regretful, but it was too late. She raised her brow and turned her attention back to Luke. His eyes were dark, canines barred. “My Mate.” He sneered through gritted teeth. Leia looked conflicted for a moment before she placed her hand on her brother’s shoulder. "Congratulations bro." She said with a genuine smile on her face. His free hand reached back and squeezed her side affectionately. Everyone, besides Luke and Natalia, seemed to take a moment to process everything. I know I did. After Leia told me Paul changed his mind, I pictured Natalia back home with her douche family. Was he waiting to see if Leia accepted him before sending her back? What a slimeball. Alpha Daniel's disheveled form appeared from behind the newly found mates. “I guess you’ll need to find another chosen.” Leia teased, looking between the two stunned Alpha's. I perked up at her words, excitement coursing through me. “She’s ours.” I assured Aries. I’d make sure of it.
