Chapter Seventeen
Carrie hardly recognised the old, Victorian factory that belonged to Carrie Hatchett Enterprises. A steel shell covered it top to bottom and over the roof. The result was a building-sized metal box. Though nothing was visible from the outside, within the double-walled shell was the layer of oootoon that prevented the placktoids from entering or leaving the place via transgalactic gateway.
The plan was to go inside and leave the doors open so that the Council could create their own gateway. Then, the Unity troops would force the third-generation placktoids through to a secret planet before they could be rescued. The supporting units of police, army and air force, who were providing helicopter support, had all been briefed.
