Chapter Nine

1792 Words
-Victoria’s POV- “But what would all this chaos do?” The teachers discuss everything that has been happening in the school. “Whoever is behind this, has an agenda. But what is it?” “We need to solve this before another student gets hurt.” “Yea but I am afraid we are completely at a lost right now.” “Alright, in the meantime I want you all to keep your eyes open for anything strange.” The headmaster says and dismisses us. Isaac, Luke, Zach, Marina, Nolan, and I head out together. Marina and Nolan were allowed in the meeting because she threw a tantrum and her grandfather gave in. “Uh, I don’t even want to be here anymore. What if I get stuck in a nightmare too.” Marina says almost crying. “We’d all come and get you out.” Nolan says trying to comfort her. I nod. “Yea, I’d be the second one to jump in, right after Nolan.” We see Holly walking down the stairs with Abel. “So, any juicy gossip in there?” Holly asks. “Nope, they were talking of what we all already know.” Luke says. “Oh.” She looks disappointed. “Okay, so parker is waiting for us at the diner.” Nolan says. “Ooh! I heard there's a new clothing store. I want to check it out and honestly, I kind of want to be as far away from here as possible.” Marina says. I nod. “Alright, let's go.” “Yea, I’m bored anyway.” Holly says. We look at the boys and they all squint their eyes at us. “You can all wait for us at the dine- I start to say but I am quickly cut off. “Nope, we’re coming with you.” Isaac says crossing his arms. “Fine, just don’t rush us when we are shopping.” Marina points a finger at him. We all head into town and park at the diner to meet up with Parker and get some breakfast first. “Do they have a festival again?” I ask looking at the old cars that pass by us. “Probably, there’s always something going on in town.” Luke says. We walk in and stop immediately. “What the hell is this?” Marina says looking at everyone and scrunching her face. “What are they wearing?” Holly asks. “Looks like... fifties clothes?” I say but it’s more like a question. Everyone in the diner, except for those students of our school, wear the fifties style clothing. There’s even a jukebox playing old music and some people are even dancing. And of course, they give us the same looks they always give us. We walk over to Parker who looks just as perplexed as we do. “Hey, about time you guys got here.” He says. We all sit and order. “I heard that your dream became real. I wish mine did.” Parker says to Luke. “It was a nightmare, not a dream and I really don’t want to talk about it.” Luke says looking spooked. I shiver still remembering that smile. “I want to walk through the stalls later. I haven't been to one of these festivals in a while.” Zach says. “Yea they should have them at the town square.” Parker says. “Do they have those magic stalls like the last festival?” I ask. “I doubt it, those usually come for the autumn festival only.” Marina says. “But you know, there is a magic shop in town that we can go to later.” I nod. I feel cautiously curious. After we eat, we head out. We walk through town and go to the town square but we don’t see a single stall. “Maybe it’s a school festival?” Zach asks and points at the students from Langston High. They all wear very fifties varsity jackets and some of the girls have old looking style cheerleaders' clothes. I decide to walk over to them. “Hey, what is this festival about?” I ask them. They all look at me confused but one of the guys smiles. “You from that fancy academy, right?” He asks and looks me up and down. “Girl, you’re the ginchiest!” “What?” I ask asks confused and feeling mortified. (What the hell is ginchiest. Is that bad?) “You into having some back seat bingo with me at the passion pit?” He asks smirking and his friends all high five him. I look at him completely confused. (He wants to play... bingo?) “Oh come on sweet thing, don’t tell me you’re a wet rag?” He says. I have no words. (I think he is flirting with me? But I don’t understand a thing he is saying.) I feel Isaac and Luke stand next to me and I look at them expecting them to be all jealous and angry but they just look as confused as I do. Isaac narrows his eyes at the guy and Luke steps forward crossing his arms. "Are you having a seizure or something?" Luke asks. “Bobby, you better cut the gas or these greasers are going to pummel you to the ground.” One of the girls says in a warning tone. “And they look like they can take all of you down.” The girl says softly now looking at Isaac up and down with heated eyes. I hear Zach sighing behind us. “I’m starting to think that this is not a festival.” He says. We all turn to him. “What? Then why are they so... weird?” Luke asks. “They are talking with slangs they used back in the fifties. Unless they are being very committed to their rolls, I think this might be an artifact.” He says. “Oh no!” Marina panics. “I don’t want to be part of this! Have we been transported back in time? NO!” Holly takes her hand out and smacks her on the back of the head. “Ow!” Marina holds her head. “Woman, calm down and be smart.” Holly says and takes her phone out. “See, I still have service so no, we haven't been transported back in time.” Marina sighs and so do I. “So what do we do?” Nolan asks. “We should tell the teachers.” Parker says. “Yea, they’ll handle it.” Isaac says taking his phone out. He puts it on speaker as he calls the headmaster. “Hello!” “Harold, we have a situation in town.” Isaac says. “What?” The headmaster sighs. “What is it.” We hear a commotion in the background as Isaac tells him of what is happening in town. He sighs again. “Ok, I am going to need you all to handle it. We have our hands full over here with an elemental.” “What!?” We are all shocked. “I’ll explain later. You need to find the artifact. It has to be somewhere around town. It should look like a small white jukebox figurine, no more than two inches if I remember correctly.” “Ok-” He interrupts us. “Is Zach with you?” He asks. “Yes, I’m here.” “Ok good, once you have the artifact make sure you chant these words three times. ‘Othila Algiz Kano Raido’.” He says. “Ok, and that will be it?” Zach asks. “Yes, that artifact is relatively easy to contain and it doesn’t really pose a threat. It is just cursed to assimilate to an era, in this case, the fifties, that’s all.” We hear another commotion in the background and he hangs up. Marina gives a sigh of relief. “How in the world are we going to find a small figurine in a town?” “I came prepared this time.” Zach says with a big smile. He takes sage from his backpack. “YES!!” Luke says. “I only have three so we’ll have to split up. I will enchant them and we will all go to different parts of town, now this will point you to all manners of magical objects so if it points you to something random, just ignore it and keep walking, it will show you to another. Whoever finds it, give a call and we'll meet back here to chant the spell.” Zach says. Zach enchants the sage and we all split up. Me, Isaac, and Luke head to the area where the shops are at. “You know this semester is turning to be a disaster.” Luke says. I nod. “Yea, and it’s just starting.” “I’m f*****g tired of it already.” Isaac says with a sigh. The smoke from the sage leads us to someone sitting on a bench. A lady, with long black hair and really dark eyes, stands up. The smoke envelops her around the neck where an amulet hangs. Clearly, it's of magical nature. I find it strange that she doesn’t look like everyone else in town with the fifties look. She has a black tight tube dress with a modern-looking purse and black high heels. She stares at me and smiles but it looks... empty. “Miss Winters.” She says and my eyes go wide. “Who... are you?” I ask. (How does she know me?) ("I don't like her.") Archion says. She just smiles staring at me with eagerness and after finally a few more seconds she talks. “No one.” She walks away and the three of us are left there confused and shocked. We stand there watching her go as the smoke shifts to an antique store next to us. We slowly make our way into the store still feeling confused and lord behold, we find the figurine. --- “We had to buy it.” Luke says looking annoyed as we give the figure to Zach now back at the town square. As Zach does his magic thing, I am distracted thinking about that woman we met. “What is it?” Isaac asks. “Could that have been the person that is making all this mess? I mean, she looked out of place.” I ask. “I don’t know, but it could be a possibility that she is involved in some way.” He says. I nod. "Yea."
