The party

AVERY’s POV I quickly turned around and held Logan’s hand. Two guys in black hoods shoved a knife in my face in the broad daylight! That made it even more epic. “I am standing in front of my house. I should be asking you who you are” “We will be back for you, watch your back” They ran off and I swear I was as confused as I was stunned. “Mummy, see” Logan pointed to the guys in the car and we turned around. 2 men came down from each of the cars while 3 came down from the truck. Camila, Logan, and I kept staring at these men as they offloaded the truck. They brought out furniture wrapped in transparent nylons and took it into the apartment opposite mine. Home gadgets and the like. “Mummy, are we finally getting a neighbor?” “I guess so, son” I sighed and whispered to Logan with a little smile. We walked into the house and I immediately walked to the kitchen. There was this joy that always filled my heart whenever I was home. I was still confused about what had happened earlier but I didn't want it to bother me. I remember how when I first received this house as a gift a month after my parents were murdered. I received the documents in my house from a delivery man, he delivered them in a parcel. And I got a call to come sign the house documents. I did and immediately moved in. It was mysterious but I was too happy to decline it. I remember how hard it has always been for me even when my parents were alive. I had to take care of my child so Camila got me a job in Greenville Montessori High School. Camila came into the kitchen, grabbed a cup of water, and then moved close to me. “Are you excited about your new neighbor? Who do you think it might or they may be? Maybe a married couple or a family of 6!” “Or maybe a serial killer who is used to killing for fun and now is probably looking for a place to lay low” I pouted my lips and stared at her. “Avery! You have the worst imagination and mindset ever! Why would you even think about something like that?!” “I mean it happens, right? See what just happened outside the fact you are this calm is surprising” “Girl, you need to do better. And I am sure what happened was either a prank or those dudes were lost. Don't worry about it. That aside, what are you cooking?” “Cooking? Are you hungry? Camila, you know how much I hate cooking, right? I am trying to make coffee for myself..” “Coffee?! How about Logan? He hasn't eaten anything, Avery” She squinted her eyes and gazed at me like she was teasing me. “Fine, I will prepare something for him, or we can order pizza, right? I should ask him what he wants. He needs to study so I don't want him to eat too much and get tired” “Avery, give the child a break! He just got back from school and needs to relax. He has been studying, please” “I know that, but..” “But nothing, okay? I know you need him to study and become someone great and powerful in the future but don't forget Rome wasn't built in a day, okay?” I nodded, walked to Logan, and asked what he wanted to eat. He insisted on pasta and chicken. Camila assisted me in preparing the food and within an hour it was ready. I served it on the dining table and the 3 of us kept talking about how good the food tasted. “Logan, go to the room and get some rest, okay? I will come to get you once it is time for class, okay?” Camila said softly to Logan. “Can I just sleep on the couch? The room is too big for just me” Camila and I laughed loudly and I told him to do whatever he wanted. He jumped on the couch and slept off quickly. Camila and I have always been friends ever since our childhood days. We fight and settle a lot but we have always been there for each other. When my parents died she comforted and helped me with my pregnancy. She never for once made me feel like a liability to her. That is why I brought her to stay in this house with me when I received it. “Avery, what is the plan? Avery? Avery!” I flinched and held my chest. I was so deep in thought I forgot I was not alone. “Did you say something?” “Yes! I said what is your plan? I mean the principal. If you ask me, I think you should attend the party! Just to avoid further problems with him” “Party? A social gathering? No, I will pass” I took my phone and immediately I turned it on. There were messages on the school group chat about the party, and it is mandatory to attend. “Oh, please!” I exclaimed and shoved the phone back into my bag. “What is it?” Camila sharply asked but I didn't say anything. She took my phone and laughed loudly “It is not funny, Camila” “Exactly! Avery, you need to attend the party. If you are worried about Logan I will stay with him. Go have fun” “Fun in my book is staying at home on my comfortable bed watching my TV shows, and sleeping! Not some social gatherings with loud music and weird dresses” “Well, you need to attend. Maybe for an hour, or two.. Just make sure the principal sees you, alright?” I rolled my eyes to the back and yelled. Oh, how I hate pleasing people. Camila picked a dress for me and Karen sent the address of the party to me. After an hour I was dressed, and ready to go. I wore a short red dress with a black bow in front of it. I have this slim thick body, well I like to believe that is how my body looks. The dress made my ass a little bigger and my hips were well placed. Ah, the perfect dress. I got to the venue by 8 pm in Camila’s car. When I got into the house I stood for about a minute staring at the chandelier and the decorations with red and white balloons all over the house. I noticed everyone was dressed in white while I wore red. “f**k! It is a themed party! Karen, that b***h didn't tell me anything! I feel so out of place” I said to myself but I guess I was a little too loud. I walked upstairs to the first room I saw and I stepped inside to splash little water on my face. I turned the tap on but before I could do anything someone grabbed me from behind and used a cloth to cover my mouth firmly. “Do not say a word, or you are dead!”
