Chapter 14

When the duo were ready to walk, Erik made sure she was fine before asking her. “So, has it been done?” She stared at him before checking her purse. Sure enough, her library card was missing with all the details and her little directory which she smiled and nodded. “Yes!” She smirked and they left the college to narrate everything to Linda. “So, do we have to go now to police station to complaint about it?” Linda whispered to which Erik rolled his eyes. “Are you sure you were even paying attention when we were planning it?” He asked irritated. “Of course I paid attention to your whispers that you exchanged practically into each other’s ears.” Linda answered feeling crossed. “Guys, please drop it already. You are nothing but Tom and Jerry.” Iris huffed as the duo exchanged surprised look. Both had the same thought, ‘She was opening up!’ “I have a date kinda thing with him tonight.” She said without any enthusiasm. Erik was surprised. Linda felt contradictory. “Why?” Erik asked in anger. “It is how we were supposed to work Erik, you knew it.” Iris was shocked from his sudden bluntness. “But don’t you think it is too early?” Erik rubbed his face in anxiety. He now doubted his own plan. Was it right to shove the lamb in the lion’s den? “I think it isn't. He was the one who asked her out and he already opened up about her fiancée to her so it was the right time to accept the offer and not after some other day which may not even happen again?” Linda refuted. Erik seemed he could argue with them but didn’t. He just wanted to make sure Iris was safe. “Okay, but you don’t have to if you think you aren’t ready okay?” Erik muttered ever so low, making the other ladies smile. They knew he meant good. “Promise” Iris replied and the trio was lost in the anticipation of tonight. *** “Welcome bro. I never thought you would come and see your best friend now.” Derek mocked Aiden who looked red as a tomato. Both pretended that the other’s presence didn’t faze them but in reality, they grieved the loss of their friendship. Derek cleared his head before acting like it didn’t matter to him anymore. “So, how was your time spent with my little sister?” Derek asked twirling ice in his whiskey. The other woman’s eyes bulged out. “Sister…? What do you mean?” She asked.  “It wasn’t her!” Aiden spat at him. “What I would really like to know is what do you think you are doing? Why are you keeping tabs on me when we clearly agreed on it?” Aiden scowled. “Ah- uh, I think you are mistaken here. I never agreed to not keep tabs on you. Since you know of my darkest secret, how could I leave you off the hook so easily Aiden?” Derek sneered. Aiden wanted to punch the day lights out of him but he knew better. It wasn’t the right time. “So, Iris is back huh?” Derek sounded hurt. The lady gasped at the mention of the name and that angered Aiden even more. “I told you she isn't Iris and stay the f**k out of this matter!” his voice boomed scaring the s**t out of them. Derek stared at him with disdain. “I can’t and you know that. The business is still under her name and we would need her to sign the papers in the presence of the board. So, whoever the f**k she is; I want her and you will help me or else…” Derek knew how to touch his button. “You bastard!!!” Aiden grabbed Derek’s collar which stunned him. He had never seen Aiden this violent before. Three men in black rushed in and pulled Aiden back who was still not under control. “Get a grip of yourself or be ready to say goodbye to your family as well.” Derek straightened his coat and left from there. Aiden growled and pushed the men back before glaring at them. He hated being so weak but he couldn’t help not now. He had already thought of his way to repay Derek but an action of impulse could force him lose everything he had. He rushed to his car and swiveled back in a dangerous speed to reach his old apartment where he used to stay with Iris at vacations. He was trying to calm his nerves when his phone beeped and received a message. With half-heart, he opened it up and his heartbeat raced. Look-Alike: If still in for the plan, meet me at 7 in Shango Bar. He quickly replied her, ‘Yes, I will be there without fail.’ *** Iris was dreading to go but with a heavy heart, she got dressed up in her finest cloth that Linda bought for her. When it was time, she reached the bar only to see Aiden standing in front of her leaning against his Lamborghini. A smile spread on her face but quickly dropped when she realized that he wasn’t hers any more. With confidence, she exited her car in a classy yet sexy way and closed the door trying to find someone. Aiden’s breath hitched when he saw her in that black midi that hung on her curves perfectly. His first thought about her was ‘Wow’. He saw as she flicked her hair and moved walked towards him. Her face so innocent that it could be easily mistaken for Iris’s but he wasn’t here to ruin his chance; if she had lost her memory, he would do anything to help her get them back. ‘Are you sure you want to give her all of her memories?’ His brain mocked at him. Iris saw him having internal debate and faked to finally spot him. “Hey, so you are already here. I like men who keep their words.” She replied seductively. Although it was what she thought but to Aiden it was just a friendly gesture that somehow sounded sexy. Clearing his throat, he took her inside while placing a hand on her lower back. Iris stiffened and Aiden eyed her. “I don’t prefer anyone touch me in the first meeting.” Iris stated the fact which made Aiden like her. He pulled her hand back and failed to notice someone who followed them here. “So, what’s your poison?” Aiden smirked. He hoped she would refuse and that would mean it was her. Iris on the other hand was sweating. ‘With him sitting next to her, how could she switch the drinks?’ “Oh well, the bartender knows it.” She winked at him and Aiden felt jealous listening that. She pulled out a paper and handed it to the bartender when Aiden was engrossed in his phone to mask his jealousy. ‘Only flavored water-Linda’ Jim beamed seeing Linda’s name. They were friends and he quickly nodded before disappearing somewhere. He was back with her flavored water that resembled vodka and handed Aiden his whiskey. They sat in utter silence before Iris tried to break it. “Do you want to tell me yourself or should I ask?” Iris blurted to which Aiden raised his eyebrows in straight line. “You took something from my purse.” She made it clear this time. “Did I? I don’t remember anything taken from your purse.” He replied giddily. “Uh in that case, I should go to report it to the police.” She answered nonchalantly. “Mmm, I can help you with that. I have so many known persons in the police department. In fact, I will take you there myself.” Aiden enjoyed himself. “No thanks, I don’t like depending on someone. I can handle my own business.” Iris said without any emotions. She doesn’t want to repeat her past where she was depended on him to such an extent that his betrayal made her dead. “Excuse me. I need to use the washroom.” She excused herself to get some fresh air from the constant pressing on her chest. It was becoming difficult for her to breathe. When she was away for a good time, she went inside to see someone already eating out Aiden’s face. Her fingers curled into fists and she marched towards them. Only when she was near them she saw him pushing her away but the lady wasn’t ready to leave him. In her mind, she was already pulling her hair and dragging her down before punching in her face. She breathed deeply before asking in a sweet voice. “Hey, I didn’t know you asked your girlfriend too?” Iris laughed almost sneered. It startled the pair as the lady stood straight and faced Iris. They both shared the same look but with a difference. Iris emotions were hidden whereas the girls’ weren’t. “Iris?” she asked. “Sorry? Not again?” Iris said in a shaky voice. “Haven’t you told your girlfriend?” She glared at Aiden. She couldn’t believe and take anymore. Right now her whole world has crashed but she couldn’t help but mask it. Her legs trembled trying to hide her emotions and her hands shook. Aiden noticed it but remained quite; he wasn’t sure what caused it. “She isn't my girlfriend.” He quickly corrected it. He couldn’t let any misunderstanding arise between them. “Of course, I totally believe you.” Iris rolled her eyes and spat at him. The other lady felt relieved believing that she wasn’t Iris. “Don’t mind him, he isn't my boyfriend but we are friends with you know… benefits.” She almost whispered the last word and winked at Iris. Iris was disgusted with it and wanted to slap her. Aiden was quick to react. “Are you out of your mind? Stop feeding lies. Where is your boyfriend and what does he think sending you after me?” He shook her violently and Iris couldn’t believe her eyes. She had never seen him behave this way towards a girl so how did he change so much? ‘Was it because of her?’ ‘Of course not, I ain’t that important to him’ The sensible brain part reasoned with her.  “Trouble in Paradise” Iris couldn’t help but smirk at the other girl. She threw daggers at Iris and left. “Who was that?” She asked Aiden. “No-one important.” He answered whimsically. He felt she was jealous and he was enjoying it. “You didn’t thank me.” She glanced at him now looking straight into his eyes. She regretted doing it as his eyes were drowning her in them. “What for…?” Aiden had no idea about what she was saying. “To save your handsome face being eaten by a random crazy chick. Duh” Iris replied giving him a playful glare. Both chuckled as he was lost staring at her. She was now self conscience about herself. “Thanks… Although I was pretty sure I would have thrown into her face if you wouldn’t have arrived.” Aiden replied and laughed when he heard her gag at that. Iris stared at Aiden and the smile on his face pierced her heart from the memories of her past. Fortunately, she received a call from Linda and that was an excuse for her to leave. “I’ll have to go.” She blurted which stopped Aiden’s laugh. He was comfortable with her but he wasn't sure if they would meet again. “Let me drop you then.” Aiden stood up blocking her way. “There’s no need for that, I have my own car.” Iris raised an eyebrow at him. ‘Was he really so comfortable with another girl?’ She wondered. “So, can we hang out some other time?” Aiden asked fidgeting not sure whether he was doing the right thing or not. “Um, maybe I would let you know. It was nice meeting you by the way.” Sunny replied before shaking hands with him and left in her car. Aiden felt empty and lost when she was gone but not before another sound startled him. “I hope you still remember that she is meant to be bait so stay away from her.” The same woman hissed near his ear and Aiden clenched his fingers into a fist. “f**k Off!” He grumbled and left.
