Chapter 8

1690 Words
Aiden was frustrated in failing to find her out. He paced around his office as his PA came and hesitated to interrupt his trail of thoughts. Rick wondered that if he doesn’t report it now the same thing’s gonna bite him in the ass so he breathed deeply before knocking loudly and letting Aiden know of his presence. “What is it?” Aiden asked now taking his place behind his desk. “Sir, the DNA results have arrived.” Rick handed him an envelope which managed to get his attention. He almost snatched them and tore it from the end to hastily phish out those papers. Glancing at the inference he turned the pages rapidly till he reached the end. He sent a little prayer to the one above as those results confirmed his doubt. “I want you to check out all the CCTVs at entry and exit of the city. Don’t leave any stone upturned to find her.” He sounded calm now much to Rick’s relief. “So, does that mean Madam Iris is alive?” Rick asked to be sure. His eyes showed ray of hope which Aiden surely noticed. Aiden smiled a little and nodded. “Atleast that’s what we can conclude from these reports. There isn’t any similarity of her from the bones found near that whole river area but make sure; this doesn’t leak outside. I don’t want unwanted attention on this matter.” Aiden said sternly which chilled Rick. “Ye-Yes Sir! Don't worry; I will keep it safe with me.” Rick replied before leaving his office. Once he was safely outside he let go of his breath he didn’t realize he had been holding. He could only wish that Iris is found soon because he had seen his boss change since her death- No, missing. His boss has become cold-hearted and heartless person. He only know how much prayers he would do while working for his boss. “Where are you Iris? Why are you hiding from me? You should know better that I can find you even from the core of the earth.” Aiden sighed closing his eyes. He missed her soft and sweet voice. He was so used to see her deep brown eyes that shone with mischief and laughter that he couldn’t help but think of all the pranks she could have planned for him. She was very different from all the girls he had seen; not that he had seen any before but now. She never wanted anything from him. It was him who knew without her knowing that she loved only his company. Iris was like a good but naughty girl. She still had her baby fat on her face and her hands were so small compared to his. Yet those fit well as if made for each other. Iris was a perfect sub but with her own brain. She could be persuasive without being annoying and she could easily warm your heart from her innocence. She believed in helping everyone and had faith in god but unfortunately; nothing favored her. His heart clenched remembering her and his eyes turned watery. He quickly shoved those thoughts before working. When he was done with the work, he headed home. “Son! Come and join us for the dinner.” His mother called him. He had been avoiding everyone from last 7 months because they reminded him of her. Without even answering, he went upstairs to get changed. There was a loud knock on his door and his father entered his room. His father looked at the emotionless face of his son and felt emotional. “Son, are you still going to do this to us? It wasn't our fault that Iris isn’t alive anymore—” “IRIS IS ALIVE! How many times should I tell you that I will find her and till then I don’t want to discuss anything about her.” Aiden yelled at his father. “OK I’m sorry but if you are so sure about this then why do you still ignore us? Nobody knows what happened to her that night and you still believe she is fine. Your mother hasn’t seen you eye to eye since that night. Don't you think it is unfair to her or me or to you?” His father was annoyed. They had been deprived of their son’s love since that day and he doesn’t even know why? They wanted him back like old times. They have missed their son so much. He hardly comes to live with them. Whenever he comes, he is late and wouldn’t join them at dinner or breakfast. They haven’t exchanged a proper conversation till this day and he wonders how long will it take for Aiden to accept her death and move on in his life. “I know but I-I don’t want to... please leave me alone.” Aiden requested to his father and the helplessness in his voice didn’t go unnoticed. “Okay” his father left him drowning in his own thoughts. He watched Derek and her stabbing Iris mercilessly. He wanted to scream and punch but couldn’t because he was helpless to see that. He was bound to watch her damped face that tried to mask the pain she was going through. He saw how her eyes fought to gain focus but failed. His heart crumbling to pieces as Iris clutched Derek’s blazer and tried to stabilize herself. “Brother...” those words were more like prayer. Her love for Derek was easily heard in that whisper and I was sure that it shook Derek to his bones. He was a failure in expressing his feelings and worst in accepting them to himself. Feeling irritated, Derek pushed her down and started kicking her ruthlessly. I swear I could feel my bones crashing with each blow she received. Her eyes turned upwards and her lips moved in silent prayers. I cried behind them till Derek asked me to carry with my job. “Shoot! Remember?” He waited and when I didn’t do what he asked, he gave me a silent warning about what he could do. I slowly raised my hands with a gun pointed to the only love of my life. I saw how she fought to make a movement with her head. She was asking me not to do that. She was hoping that I would hug her and pull her out from this mess. She wanted me to pull her into me and save her from everything. ‘Oh how I wish I could have done any of those things.’ My heart disappointed in me and scoffed at me. Was I really going to do this with her? She is an innocent soul and will I sacrifice her to save others? ‘Remember?’ Derek’s word shivered me from within. How couldn’t I remember that my best friend was manipulated to such an extent that he had my signature on some papers with cheating? Those papers stated that I was selling my family and their business to the highest bidder and not only that; I will sell away my love, Iris in an auction. He asked me to do whatever he wanted if he was to tear those papers away. He even blackmailed that he would link Iris with s*x scandal and human trafficking if I didn’t agree to this. I never realized that all these would cost her life. In order to save her; here I was pointing the gun back at her and before I could have thought twice, I pulled the trigger and watched the bullet pierce her thigh flesh. ‘I shot her’ I saw her disbelieved look. I couldn’t forget that face which made me feel filthy. I broke her trust and her heart forever. I shook gasping loudly. Another nightmare! I had been having them since that evening because her shattered look still haunts me. I swallowed the lump formed in my throat and prayed every night for her forgiveness. I prayed to get a second chance in which I would do anything to save her from this cruel world and even me. All I need is her! My Iris; my love! *** Iris’s POV I woke up suddenly and tried to breathe deeply. The loud knock on my door got my attention. I was about to stand to get it but it opened and Erik rushed inside with Adonis barking and jumping on my lap. I was happy to have him near and me and the way he was protective about me reminds me of my Bravo. “Are you okay? We heard you scream. Is it another nightmare?” Erik looked at me with concern and I squirmed under his gaze. How I wish he doesn’t have to worry so much. I wasn't ready to accept people’s kindness towards me. It made me confused and upset. I nodded my head to answer him and heard him sigh. “You can have Adonis beside you. I am pretty confident you won’t be scared any longer.” Erik suggested and as if on cue, Adonis barked. “Well, I think I will.” I cooed to Adonis and then glanced at Erik. He had that dreamy look on his face and I hesitated. ‘Does he like me?’ ‘I hope not. I don’t think love is my thing.’ “Why do you think Aiden is looking out for me?” I asked him. “Who knows but I just know that I hate him!” Erik glared before leaving my room. “I wish I could bring myself to hate him.” I murmured to myself.
