Chapter 1
Bianca lay in her bed thinking about what a s.hitty night this turned out to be. She had been so excited about going out with Jen for her birthday and when Jen had found a hottie to dance with, Bianca was hoping it would help her get over her stupid crush on Shawn. But, she should have known the night started out as a cluster, it only made sense for it to end that way too she guessed. After Bianca got back with shots for Jen, herself, and Jen's dancing partner she could tell Jen was trying to ditch the hottie. At first Bianca thought she didn't want her to feel left out but when she went to say she didn't care if Jen kept dancing with him, Jen gave her a look that said she was definitely done. But when they tried to walk away the hottie turned into an a.sshole. The guy was getting a little too handsy with her best friend and she was about to lose it when Shawn and James appeared at their side. She was actually thankful for Shawn's overbearing presence right about now, and surprisingly, James had come right over to her asking her if she was okay. As she was about to answer she heard the a.sshole start laughing and turned to look at him. He was looking right at James and started running his mouth, "it's definitely not worth getting into it with someone who has a beast to protect her. Dude, you should really get out of here before you scare off all the women." Bianca saw red. She moved faster than she ever had in her life raising her hand and slapping the s.hit out of this a.sshole. "What makes you think you can talk about him like that, you piece of s.hit?" She yelled, "you're trying to force this woman to dance with you and practically threaten to sexually assault her and then think you can talk about him like that? Get the f.uck out of here because I sweat to God if I see you again I will do a lot more than slap you in your stupid, ugly a.ss face." And she meant it too. She had never felt this kind of rage coursing through her, not even when, nope not going there not now, this was about James. By the time she turned back to look at him he had started making his way back upstairs. She turned to Jen to make sure she was okay, and when she said she was fine, she ran to catch up to James. "Hey," she said, walking over to him after finally catching up. "Look, that guy was a big d.ouche bag, I hope you don't let what he said ruin the rest of your night." He laughed humorlessly, "Why? He didn't say anything that wasn't true. I look like a f.ucking monster with half my face covered in this Goddamn scar." She hated that he felt that way, the scar didn't even cover his full half face. It started at his temple and went down over his cheek and onto his neck but it stopped short of covering his nose or mouth. "That's not true" she said, stepping closer to him. She wasn't sure if it was the alcohol fueling her or her anger, but either way she didn't care, she just wanted to make him feel better. "You are the most attractive man I have ever seen in my life." She sat down next to him and went to run her hand over his face. "Don't" he ground out, grabbing her hand, not hard enough to hurt, but hard enough to stop her. "What the f.uck are you doing Bianca? I didn't ask you to come up here. I don't need you to try to make me feel better. I know exactly what I look like and I don't need your pity or your insincere words, so how about you go back down to the dance floor and find someone who actually wants to dance with you and stop this pathetic school-girl crush you seem to have on me." Bianca hated crying, she rarely ever did it but between the alcohol, her heart hurting for James, and his mean words, she couldn't hold the tears in. She immediately got up and headed for the stairs. She passed Jen on her way out, assured her she was fine, then headed outside to get a cab home. Ugh, why did she think this night would be fun? She just wanted to go home, cry, and fall asleep until tomorrow afternoon. She had been so excited about going out tonight and was really hoping she would have been able to talk James into dancing with her. She had had a crush on Jen's brother from the first moment she saw him. Her and Jen met in college and took an immediate liking to each other. So much so that after their freshman year they started rooming together. The first time Jen introduced her to James she was pretty sure her heart had skipped a beat. So sure it had skipped a beat, she almost called her doctor the next day. She wasn't entirely sure what it was about him that drew her in. Maybe it was the mysterious bad boy vibe he gave off, or the fact that he was hotter than sin. Either way, one meeting and she was hooked. But he couldn't have cared less about her. He had made it very clear on almost every occasion they had been together that he wasn't interested in her. She wasn't sure why she had been hoping that tonight would be different but she had. And of course the very first time they have a conversation just the two of them and it ends disastrously. She knew he was sensitive about his scar, maybe she shouldn't have tried to touch him, but why did he care so much that she wanted to tell him how attractive she found him? Did it really bother him that much? Ugh, she should have just left him alone to wallow, but that wasn't who she was. No, she wasn't going to second guess herself because she tried to make someone feel better. She wasn't going to let him make her feel bad. Screw him and his s.hitty attitude she thought, before she finally fell into a fitful night of sleep as her old nightmares kept her tossing and turning throughout the night.
