Chapter Three Albert and Henry didn’t return to the house until two, at which time, Henry again absconded with his son—more business matters to attend. There seemed to be some crisis, a client pissed as hell at their latest report. For the rest of the afternoon, the two men remained locked behind closed doors waiting for faxes, emails and phone calls. On one quick break, Albert took Mariel aside. “I’m so sorry, I had no intention of ignoring you like this. Father can be quite a brute, especially when it comes to money. He jumps, I run.” “I know. I work for him, too,” she reminded him, while taking quick comfort nestled in his arms. He kissed her lightly on the forehead. “We’ll have to take off somewhere, where there are no phones, no business, no family. I’m afraid this was a mistake.”
