"Run!!!" Realyn looks at her mother, her face is pale and fear striken.
"Mother—" her mother grabbed her wrist and pulled her into the deeper part of the forest. She looks back to see some of the other villagers using their abilities to stop whoever— whatever is chasing them. "What's happening?" She asks her mother but she just shakes her head. Realyn knew the moment she woke up and heard screams of terror that something is wrong. But what could gone wrong? Their layari village is peaceful, they've never been involved in trouble, as much as possible they seclude themselves from werewolves, vampires and other supernatural. What could gone wrong? "Mother! Why are we running?! Where is father?!" She demanded as she struggle to escape from her mother's grasp, she successfully did but she could only take two steps away from her mother when she froze. Literally. She could only move her head that's why she looks up to see the moon shining brightly yet something is off. The moon is shining yet the cloud underneath it is crimson red. The forest is too quiet, even the wind seems afraid to make a sound. They're now in the deepest part of the forest yet her father is nowhere to be seen.
Father...
"We have to go, Lyn. They are hunting us down." Her mother spoke softly.
"We can't leave them, mother. We have to help them. We need to help them. Father is not with us, he must be there! We have to go back!" She firmly stated. Her mother is now in front of her and is crying, shaking her head.
"We can't go back. The other layaris wants us to flee. We have to..."
"Why? I can save them! I can hold their time and we can all leave using Marinette's ability!" She argued. Right, her best friend, Marinette will be able to transfer them somewhere safe. Somewhere far. Then they can use Lola's ability of protection and they can hide from whoever and whatever is hunting them down.
Her mother sob pitifully and hugs her. "Marinette is gone, Lyn. She's gone..." No... Impossible! Marinette is the best layari at escaping! That can't be possible.
How could this be happening? They were having fun this morning and she went to sleep happily. How can this happen for such a short period of time?
Realyn tried to deny it, she wants to believe this is all just a nightmare and she will wake up and everything is back to normal, yet the screams, the smoke of their burnt village, her mother's weeping and fearful face, most especially, her father's absence is more than enough to prove her that this is reality.
"Let's go, Lyn. We have to go. Your father is waiting for us in the border."
"Father? He's not in the village?" Her mother shakes her head. Realyn heaved a sigh of relief yet the guilt and sadness she feels for leaving the other layaris is unbearable. She grew up with those people. They cried, laugh and played together. How can she abandon them? "I can't, mother. I can't leave them."
"I know it's painful but let's not put their sacrifices in vain, Lyn. They died protecting us, they died for the greater good. We have to leave, Lyn. Come on..." Her mother offered a small but painful smile. It hurts her but she's sure it hurts her parents more. Even before she was born her parents are with the other layaris and built their small village through all their efforts.
She took her mother's hand and together, they ran towards the forest's border, there, she saw her father, his shoulder bleeding. Her mother immediately hugs her father while her father smile and grab her small hands. With her father's hand caressing her own, reassuring her, somehow her worries and fears disappeared. "I'm glad you two are safe. Let's go, we don't have much time."
They hurriedly run towards a hidden cave that Lyn only realizes their small village has. She thought she knows every corner, every trees and every turns in their village but she thought wrong, just like how wrong she was when she thought everything is fine. How wrong she was.
"Father, what ... why are they attacking us? Who are they?" She asks as soon as they entered the dark cave. Her mother guided her to sit on a round shaped stone. She is confused. Both her parents are not answering her, her mother is pouring something around her while her father is holding a candle. A red one. "What are you doing? Why are we here? Don't we have to flee? We should .. we.." Staring at both her parents, she can't say what she wanted to. Why are they smiling at her like that? "Don't we have to go? Mother ... Father ..."
Her father shakes his head. No... "No! Why are you looking at me like that?!" She turns to her mother for help and tried to stand but she can't. Slowly, a glow of light started to surround her, like some sort of barrier. How? Her father is a nature whisperer and her mother is a shadow manipulator. Where did the light came from? Who? "What is happening?! Mother?! Father!!" As the light finally surround her she can now move, she stood up stride towards her parents but the light surrounding her halts her. She angrily bang the light but it's impenetrable. Slowly and weakly, both her arms are limping on her sides as tears started streaming down. "Why ... Mother ... Father ... why?"
"We can't go with you, Lyn. This could only work if we use enough energy." Her mother softly spoke trying to calm her.
"Then don't! You don't have to!" Both fear and anger started to get the best of her that's why she is raising her voice at her parents. She don't want to leave them, she wants to fight with them, protect them like how they always protects her. "Mother, father, please ... don't do this, whatever this is your planning. Let me fight with you, we promised to always stay together and YOU taught me to never break a promise."
"We are not breaking our promise, Lyn. We will always be with you, you know where---"
"NO!" She covered both her ears and shakes her head. Unknown to her, her father started whispering words, at first she can't hear him but his voice started growing louder along with her body beginning to feel cold. The feeling is different, her surrounding is warm yet her body started to feel cold. Too cold she started to shiver. Her hazy vision started to make up her parents, they are holding their hands with their eyes closed and both of them are glowing, her mother is glowing purple while her father is glowing green and brown. Brown ... The color brown is starting to take the shape of a wolf. "No!!! Father!!!" She finally understand what they are doing. They are sacrificing their lives for her.
"Mother! Father! Please no... don't do this! I can't lose you both, please... I beg you.." Her cries and sobs pains both her parents but only by doing this can they save her and save the world of the supernatural from chaos. The chaos that will be created by her.
Realyn watch as the the color brown shaped wolf approach the barrier around her, raising its snout and whimpers. She can feel its pain, its reaching for her and when she let it in, she felt the sadness mixed with pain but most importantly, it's genuine love and its need to protect her. Its pup. Realyn's heart broke as the wolf's shape started to disappear along with her parents. Her vision is now starting to darken and everything is hazy. Unknown to her, her body flew in a sleeping position as her eyes closed.
Realyn's parents closed their eyes as their life force started to disappear along with Realyn's body that is now covered in a light. Wrapping her, protecting her.
They look at each other with a small smile, it doesn't matter if they're losing their lives for as long as they were able to protect Realyn. The fruit of their love. Realyn needs to live. She has to...
