Chapter twelveSomebody laughed. The laugh was crude, mocking, and probably that of a Brokelsh. My nose felt as though it had spread across from ear to ear. The impact brought tears to my eyes. I shook my head impatiently. “Anybody’d think you wouldn’t know how to skin a banana.” The hectoring voice continued. “Brassud! Snap up and get yourself together. By Jakar! Walking slap bang into the wall! What a fambly!” The crude laugh spluttered again and its owner spat out: “Probably on the bottle all day, Deldar.” “Aye. Now get about your duty! Bratch!” “Quidang!” I got out like a marble block splitting. Through rainbow distortions I began to see again. There was no damn wall there at the edge of the platform, only the vista over the track and forest. The Deldar was a typical Deldar, and t
