Ace drove silently, and the quietness stretched on for quite some time, so I felt compelled to fill the void with some conversation.
"The security system is all set now," I informed him.
"Yeah, I know," he responded.
"Smoke showed us how to use it," I added.
"Smoke?" he inquired.
"Yeah, your Numero Dos," I clarified, trying to jog his memory.
"My Numero Dos?" he questioned, seemingly puzzled.
Turning to face him, I explained further, "Yeah, the Hispanic guy who supervised the work."
After a brief pause, Ace erupted into laughter, clearly amused by my reference to Smoke as "Numero Dos."
"What's so funny?" I inquired, curious about the reason behind his laughter.
