I gazed at Ace, and he gazed right back at me, his expression clearly showing his unhappiness. Wanting to break the silence, I finally mustered the courage to speak up.

He continued to stare, then walked over to the table, picking up a Nordstrom's bag and removing a box adorned with the words "Jimmy Choo" on the lid. While I didn't own a box like that, I recognized it from the numerous times I had tried on Jimmy Choo shoes. He placed the bag on the table and slid the box towards me.
